Did Fear Factor go too far?

I think the biggest thing wrong with Fear Factor is the lack of any consolation prizes. I think that anyone who completes even one of those stunts deserves to get something for it.

They do get something for it. They get to be on the TV.

I think the one where they had siblings possibly twins and one was chained to a beehive while the other had to do some various things to get the keys and let them loose. One of the girls I remember was stung quite a few times and you could see the swelling starting. That is a life threatening situation what if one had had an allergic reaction. I am sure they have doctors standing by in case of an injury but jeez that one was too dangerous. the increasingly bigger needles was nasty but unlikely to kill someone. big scars though. I don’t watch often enough to remember any other scarring type things.

I recall a stunt from an early season (I also stopped watching when the gross eating stunts became more prevalent) where they had to reach into a large, dead fish’s mouth to retrieve something that was relevant to the continuation of the task (don’t remember how it went, exactly). Anyway, one of the contestants had an allergic reaction to the fish mucous on her arm she reached in with and the medics on hand didn’t allow her to continue.

The scheming and backstabbing on Survivor holds no appeal for me, but FF, and especially Joe Rogan, are usually very positive. Here’s a challenge, it’s scary but it won’t really hurt you, face your fears and kick ass! I’ve always liked it for its attitude.

This may put things in perspective. I heard Joe Rogan speaking on another show and he mentioned the only way he gets through the show is by being incredibly high during the entire taping. He wasn’t joking. Though in fairness I think he is high most of the time.

Cutting hair is the least gross thing I’ve seen on there. And it only would take about 2 years to grow it to mid-back.

Wow, that sounds crazy!

Did they have nurses or doctors licensed and certified in Clean Needle Technique doing it? Sounds like a horrid liability/scope of practice nightmare.

I’m think they had somebody medically trained doing the poking. I’m sure they are also very hip to liability issues – this is the sort of thing that they’d know about.
