Did Hillary pull a McCaskill?

Back in 2012, Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill was up for re-election. Knowing that it would be a difficult race, her team actually ran ads for Todd Akin, one of her potential opponents in the Republican primary citing newspapers that he was “the most conservative.” Once he won the Republican primary, all the McCaskill campaign had to do was wait for her opponent to say something really dumb.

So, did the Clinton campaign help Trump get the Republican nomination?

People have speculated about this all year, but I don’t believe any actual evidence has ever surfaced. But even if the Clintons were shilling for Trump, it’s still the Republicans’ own damn fault for buying it. Donald Trump today is the same damn fool he’s been for the last twenty years.

Concur. Trump is simply too extreme and has never been anything else. I could see if the Dems worked to elect a more mainstream but still loser candidate like Cruz or Rubio.

Iirc, McCaskill ran attack ads - not ads “for” Akin - but with the hope that these attack ads would rally the ultra-conservative voters in the Republican primary. I don’t remember any ads like that from during the Republican presidential primaries this year. I didn’t see anything to suggest Hillary actively tried to help Trump. What makes you wonder about it?

The sheer unlikeliness.
