Did I just screw up a possible journalism internship?

I’m just curious if anyone who has any insight thinks I just made a big mistake.

You see, I went down to a very large international newspaper based here in Paris to ask if there were any openings for internships. When I went in, the man at the front desk told me there were certainly possibilities for internships and asked me if I had my CV, which I didn’t (in retrospect, that was stupid). I told him that I would bring it in the morning, and he said that would be great.

The end.

As I sat down this afternoon to write the cover-letter, I realized I didn’t ask the man to tell me to whom my CV would be going – and thus to whom I should address my cover letter!

I know I’m qualified to work for this newspaper, and I would like so much to work there for a little while – paid or unpaid – for the experience.

Did I just screw it up though? Should I just address it to the editor? Should I go back tomorrow morning and ask, or would that look worse?

It sounds to me as if a phone call is in order. The paper should have at least one phone number listed, and you can ask to be directed to the right person.

I’d call them to find out. In the absence of a concrete answer, I don’t think you’d go wrong addressing it to the editor.

Call, don’t tell them who you are, and ask who is in charge of internships.

No biggie. They need never know it’s you.

Okey dokey…thanks…

And good luck!
