I posted a question a few days ago and I have received no answers at all, which strikes me as odd in the Dope. Is there some Dope convention that I didn’t follow or should have followed (eg include links), was my question unclear, or did no one have input to my questions?
I asked the question because I respect the opinions of Dopers regarding information sources.
These seem to be mostly channels on space exploration. It is important to have clear titles otherwise most readers will ignore the posts. Come with a more descriptive title and contact the mods and ask them to change it.
Or you could write a new query on something like “Best Sources of Information on Space Exploration” if that is your primary interest, and include a listing the sites you currently follow and ask opinions on them as well as alternatives. For example for me besides the general press and this forum I like Ars Technica.
I saw your post when you made it. I just don’t know anything about those particular YouTube channels. They aren’t ones I watch.
Perhaps if you told us about some of the stuff you learned from those channels, our space experts and aficionados could chime in on how accurate they are. Heck, maybe even post some examples videos to check for accuracy.
Most likely this. I, like @BigT, saw your post but, since the channels you listed were ones I was unfamiliar with, I didn’t have anything to contribute.
Agreeing with the above. The title is poorly chosen. Any title needs to say, albeit indirectly, “This is the kind of poster I want to read my OP who will have somethign useful to reply”.
I’m not an expert on YouTube space channels. But I know a lot about space and contribute to every space-related thread. Nothing about your title said it was space-related. So I assumed it was about cat videos or pimple-popping or something equally not up my alley. So I never clicked on your inadvertantly misleading title to read your OP.
I don’t spend much time in IMHO anyway, but I echo what others said about an unclear thread title. And looking at the OP, I’ve never heard of any of them. So even if I happened to be in IMHO and decided to read your thread for some reason, I’d have had nothing to contribute.
Links would have been extremely helpful, and are easy to add.
Secondly, 4 of the 5 have less than a million followers, one of which has just 42k - these are small channels that aren’t likely to be followed by a Doper.
Tell us what you try to learn from these channels, and that might spur someone who has similar interests to check them out and offer their opinion. Don’t make us do all the work here.
And I, personally, didn’t even open the thread because I don’t follow any Youtube channels at all and like some others mentioned, prefer my info in text unless there is a compelling reason to need narrated video.
If a post gets very few responses, you probably have a topic too obscure for this userbase to be much familiar with, not that you are being given a shunning.
