Did I take my vitamins today?

If you’ve forgotten if you’ve taken your vitamins today, do you go ahead and take them (again) or potentially skip a day and wait until tomorrow?

It’s probably of no help but I took a multivitamin after breakfast a few days ago and was surprised that later in the day when I belched I could taste it.

IIRC, most of the stuff in multivitamins is water-soluble, so anything you don’t absorb is going to get flushed right out anyway. For those things, it doesn’t matter if you double-dose. You have to watch the iron content, though, because I think that can build up and cause problems if you take too much of it. I think you have to take a hellacious lot of it before it becomes a real problem, though.

Isn’t there are problem with too much vitamin A?

Anyway, I would skip a day. I actually only take them once every 3 or 4 days.

My vitamins (Centrum) don’t actually have a huge amount of anything. Not enough to cause an overdose by taking a second one, anyway.

In overdose amounts, I know that :

Vitamin A can lead to hair loss and liver problems.

Vitamin C can cause diarrhea.

Iron and the B vitamins can lead to liver problems.

That’s what I remember from my pathology course last year, anyway. But even though some vitamins can be harmful in huge amounts, you have to be ingesting something like 100x the recommended daily allowance. That’s a lot of pills.

I usually take a second one later if I’m not sure. Which brings up another problem. My mom swears that a vitamin pill taken past 6pm won’t be absorbed. What’s that all about?

Might want to add some ginko to your vitamins huh?
quick side note… One of the funniest things I have heard at work was my old manager who was having trouble with her memory, so she was going to see if Ginko would help. She went out and bought a bottle, and the next day she forgot where she put it.

You will be fine if you double up one day.

You’ve just reminded me. I have to go take my vitamins.

When I can’t remember, I will just take them again. I hardly think it possible to OD on flaxseed oil and calcium without taking a lot of pills.

Doubling up once in a while won’t hurt you…at least, it hasn’t hurt me.

I use one of those little plastic geezer boxes to hold all my supplements. I try to have water near the table where I keep them, I always try to take them right after I put on my watch (and before I put on my earrings). But I forget at least once a week, it seems.

If you take vitamins every day, shouldn’t they make you feel better or something? I’ve been taking a multi-vitamin, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and a fish oil capsule for quite awhile. I couldn’t take them for a week because of a procedure I was having done (they said it would mess up the results) and I didn’t feel different or anything. Then I started taking them again and didn’t feel more energetic.

Is it a scam or what?

Well, I’ve got all those things anyway so, shouldn’t be a problem!

You wouldn’t notice a change over a week.

The idea behind taking vitamins is not to ‘get energy’. The idea is to help maintain good health over the course of your life. Anti-oxidants help keep your body tissues from decaying, and other compounds help it function smoothly.

You need to stop taking them for life, die, get cloned, and take them regularly to notice the difference. :stuck_out_tongue: But since you can only live once, attempting this is not advised at this time.

That being said, I do feel a bit run-down if I run out of Co-enzyme Q-10, and I feel a bit stuffy if I run out of viamin C. But those are the only ones I take that have an immediate noticable effect over a short period.

I’m not sure why the Q-10 has an effect, but C is an anti-histamine as well as an anti-oxidant, so feeling a bit stuffy if it’s discontinued makes sense to me. ( At least when you take 1.5g a day like I do).
