Did Iraq Attempt to Acquire Yellow Cake Uranium?

It’s a simple question. I’m not asking if Iraq ever obtained the uranium. Or if the document alleging that they did was a forgery. Or if Joe Wilson’s report that it was unlikely that any uranium was procured in Niger. Or if George Bush should have mentioned it in the infamous speech. I just want to know if there is any evidence that Iraq attempted to gain yellow cake uranium from Niger.

Comprehensive Report of the Special Advisor to the DCI on Iraq’s WMD
has this to say:

[ISG has uncovered no information to support allegations of Iraqi pursuit of uranium from abroad in the post-Operation Desert Storm era.](http://www.cia.gov/cia/reports/iraq_wmd_2004/chap4.html)
ISG has not found evidence to show that Iraq sought uranium from abroad after 1991 or renewed indigenous production of such material—activities that we believe would have constituted an Iraqi effort to reconstitute a nuclear weapons program. As part of its investigation, ISG sought information from prominent figures such as Ja’far Diya’ Ja’far—the head of the pre-1991 nuclear weapons program.

Regarding specific allegations of uranium pursuits from Niger, Ja’far claims that after 1998 Iraq had only two contacts with Niamey—neither of which involved uranium.

So far, ISG has found only one offer of uranium to Baghdad since 1991—an approach Iraq appears to have turned down.

You can take this as you like. There’re some folks who think that a 1000+ member of US picked experts w/ unfetterred access to Iraq is not authoritative enough of a source.
Personally, I know of no more authoritative source on the issue.

Why have yellow cake when Devil’s Food is better?

OK, serious reply… don’t they already have a uranium source due to mining without having to ship it in?

Thank you, PatriotX.

That will do quite nicely.
