I know he even did so in Moonstruck, but I think maybe he didn’t in Guarding Tess.
I saw a clip from a movie he made in high school. He was Nick Caging in that.
For awhile I was tempted to drop him into the Never Made A Good Movie thread but he’s had a few which weren’t total stinkers.
.
Pig.
.
He was just asked on a talk show if, of all his movies, he had a favorite. That was his answer.
Adaptation, among many others.
I haven’t actually seen Leaving Las Vegas but I’d think he wasn’t hamming it up there.
Leaving Las Vegas. He won an Oscar for it (deservedly) so it would be tough to classify it a stinker.
Also agree on Adaptation. And I’ll add Matchstick Men although maybe there was some subtle Caging that I’m forgetting.
Came in to say this.
To an extent, “Raising Arizona” as well. He’s actually pretty restrained in it compared to the crazy stuff the Coen brothers do in that one.
“Birdy” was great (and very difficult to find nowadays; not sure why) and much more recently, he played a widowed mushroom hunter in “Pig”, which really isn’t about the pig at all. That was a very good movie.
I don’t think he Caged in Valley Girl or Peggy Sue Got Married, but I can’t guarantee the latter.
But boy did he in Moonstruck. “HE HAS HIS CAGE!”
I think Cage stayed focused in National Treasure. I don’t remember any hammy scenes. But it’s been years ago. He may have reverted to form in a scene or two.
I remember it wasn’t a very good movie.
I disagree. I think it should have went to Sean Penn for Dead Man Walking.
Regarding the OP, though, I can’t think of one that hasn’t been mentioned.
Matchstick Men and The Weather Man are both fantastic and he’s pretty restrained in both. Lord of War is also great, but he has a few scenes of Cage-osity.
Willy’s Wonderland
He doesn’t talk at all. Of course, there’s such a thing as physical Cage-ing.
