Did shaved women's genitals suddenly get OK for premium channels?

You’re right, I left out an important part of my argument there. While Skinamax films don’t show up in theaters, they DO make considerably money from sales at video stores, including Blockbuster. But Blockbuster DOES censor films Here’s an earlier thread about Blockbuster cenrsorhip so to get the Blockbuster sales they edit the films and that’s probably what shows up on cable, too. So it’s a “back door” form of censorship – even though the premium channels do not censor, Blockbuster does, and so the censored version winds up on the premium channels.

I’m not going to argue this “Blockbuster censors movies” bullshit lie with you once again. Rather, I’ll just encourage readers of this thread to read the thread you linked to for the real truth on the matter. They do not, and have never, censored movies, as several posters with industry knowledge pointed out in the linked thread. I really don’t understand why you linked to that thread to support your claim, when in fact it does the opposite.

Maybe just a societal change. In the early 90’s when I first got Cinemax after dark, I can’t recall seeing any shaved nether regions, but I think much fewer people were shaving then vs. now. Also, Penthouse for a long time did not show intercourse or peeing, but I am told now show both. Was this a change in a law, or a change in the decision of the publisher?

Maybe Blockbuster doesn’t personally censor movies, but they can and do reject movies they don’t find apporpriate IIRC.

HBO has never been shy about full frontal. Back in highschool, I used to religiously tape every episode of their Real Sex TV show. Lots of genitalia on there, hirsute or otherwise.

(Best moment ever: they did a segment about a dildo factory, and used the Oompa Loompa song as the background music. With slightly altered lyrics.)

I too am OK with readers reading the linked thread, because I think it makes my case. You seem to think Blockbuster doesn’t censors because it doesn’t have an editing room with people cutting the films up. But Blockbuster does require studios to edit NC17 films down to an R before they will accept them, and that’s de facto censorship, and that’s good enough for me.

Which further makes may case, since Real Sex is an HBO in-house production, just like Bullshit is an in-house Showtime production, so they’re not subject to Blockbuster censorship.

Not any longer, except for Playboy TV (and maybe one or two others on DirecTV). Anal is edited out, however.

BB is in effect saying “cut this film in keeping with our family value standards and we will buy it from you and you will make money. don’t cut it, we don’t buy, you don’t make money”. Maybe Senor Spielbergo has enough dough to keep from doing that, but how many soft core porn or otherwise small budget video co’s and the like can afford to stick to their ‘artistic integrity’ and do the same? Hey I’m flat broke, but I have my artistic integrity!

Technically all vaginas are bald. Labia, mons pubis, etc may have hair…

shrug to each his/her own. I think public hair on women is hideously disgusting (and only slightly less so on men, come to think of it) not to mention it gets in the way, feels uncomfortable, and traps odor. But that’s just my taste, and I don’t expect everyone to share it.

I have seen one in real life.

Lots of NC-17 and porn movies still get made regardless of MPAA or Blockbuster censorship. Why do you think Cinemax does not show those?

And don’t forget Basic Instinct. That has female genitals and it airs on premium cable.

Showtime knows its target audience and they know they will lose subscribers if they start showing hardcore porn at night. It’s not that the shaved female genitals aren’t available for showing, Og knows they are, it is that Showtime makes the decision not to.

True enough. But it also has a casual meaning of ‘woman’s pubic area’ which works for me. I suppose I could use “crotch” but that sounds like a Victorian euphemism, like using “limbs” to describe arms and legs. And “pussy” to me has a specific meaning of the outer labia and everything in between.

I don’t find pubic hair disgusting, it just conceals a woman’s vagina, which I find quite pretty in most cases.

You may be right. I don’t know why premium channels generally don’t show genitals. (I would think ‘hardcore’ would consist, not so much of showing genitals, but of showing genitals in use). They have always shown brief flashes of female genitals, generally less than a second in duration, though I seem to remember a scene from “The Key To Sex” involving oral sex and a labia ring somehow sliding past the censors a few years ago, and now that I think about it, quite recently the opening to ‘Call Girl Wives’ had a scene where a woman with a shaved pussy is visible from the waist to the knees for several seconds.

I don’t consider medium shots of shaved pussies all that erotic – all you really see is a dark line between the labia. That might be why they’re being shown. But then, the “Key to Sex” scene was a close-up.

You obviously didn’t see the Bullshit episode about HAIR. That episode showed body parts that I haven’t seen in hardcore porn.

I took it upon myself to do proper research by watching the “Bullshit” episode in question on YouTube. So far, I’ve seen Part 1. The model is certainly nice-looking, and Penn makes a good point about “nuclear” being a loaded word. But so far I’m not impressed that their contention that “The energy crisis is bullshit!” In Part 1, the only thing they prove is that a Prius is not a sports car.

Maybe they pull it out in the rest of the episode.

ETA: Is it a hijack to talk about the content of the episode? I agree that it’s a bit startling to see a woman’s shaved labia on tv.

Okay, I watched the whole episode, and they established that the Prius is neither as speedy as a sports car nor as roomy as a minivan. Their main argument in support of the contention that “The energy crisis is bullshit!” is that we could replace all our fossil fuel plants with nuclear power plants and the problem would be solved. Sounds pretty debatable to me.

But they did have a naked chick, and two lesbians making out in the back of a Prius, so it’s time well spent.

Well, they certainly know how to juice up a dry old energy debate. Shaved pussies and hot lesbians kissing are clearly what we need to boost this debate in the national arena. All debates on the topic should include them!

I prefer natural furriness myself; a full-length episode contrasting the two would be a public service and damn good television.

Just one? :dubious:

Okay; but we were talking about private hair.
