Today it looks like the thread titles are larger. I also see some code at the top right that might not have been there before.
Nothing changed in my screen. What Theme are you using? It could easily be an unrelated browser setting that impacts what you are seeing, or a theme could have changed.
Discourse did update yesterday, but I don’t see anything different on my system.
What type of device, browser, and what theme are you using?
Did you maybe accidentally change the browser zoom (easy to do on a touchpad, or with a mousewheel)?
Push CMD-0 (zero) on a Mac, or CTRL-0 (PC) to reset it.
What are you seeing in the top right? The “some code”… can you take a screenshot of it?
Windows 10 laptop, Firefox, Sam’s simple
I don’t have a way to post images. Looks to me that the topic titles are larger, but everything else is normal. And I doubt very much this was due to me changing my size manually.
I am currently viewing the exact same setup and nothing looks different to me in the font sizes or thread titles.
Try Imgur: The magic of the Internet or https://postimages.org/ or https://imgbox.com/
A screenshot would go a long way in being able to tell exactly what’s happening.
Not sure how helpful that will be. To my eye, the list of BBQ pit threads is slightly larger than it used to be. Whereas the list of ‘topics’ looks normal. But also note that weird code at top right.
I have moved this to Site Feedback (from ATMB) since it concerns Discourse’s software.
I have also notified Ed so that he can notify Discourse’s devs that we have some theme issues.
Your browser toolbar shows that you’re zoomed in to 133%. Does it look any different if you click on it (resets it to normal)?
The weird code that says [en.theme_translations.6.replies]
appears to be a bug with “Sam’s Simple Theme”. You can switch to another one in https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Llama_Llogophile/preferences/interface and it should go away.
For what it’s worth, I don’t see the two screenshots show a different font size… I overlaid them, and you can see the words “you/your” are the same:
I believe that’s how I normally view the site. Taking it back to 100% makes everything noticeably smaller than usual.
As I say, it’s minor. But something looks different to me.
Maybe this “Sam” person is tweaking their theme? Maybe Ed / Discourse can figure it out. Specifically, this change from 2 days ago broke the theme translations, probably resulting in the code you saw and maybe breaking the layout in other ways.
You can report it to Discourse here: Sam's Simple Theme - Theme - Discourse Meta
Or just see if you like any of the other themes.
I have something here, too. The font’s the same size, but now the margins of the page are much narrower, with more white space on the sides and all of the text scrunched up in the middle.
That’s it - that’s what’s different.
Bumping because there have apparently been several changes in the last hour or two. I’ve seen user names in new places and I think some different colors too. What’s going on?
Everything looks normal to me, it might help to say what theme you are using.
Windows 10, Sam’s Simple, same as last time.
Also, I’m not the only one who noticed. Go ahead and merge or close this thread if you like.
Just change your theme to something else at https://boards.straightdope.com/u/Llama_Llogophile/preferences/interface
Sam’s Simple Theme is one of the Discourse built-ins, and it’s going to change whenever Discourse feels like changing it. It’s not a SDMB setting.
Maybe choose one of the SDMB themes if you want something more stable.
I use Straight Dope Light and rarely see problems, either on my phone or my PC. Especially considering how often people here complain about the Sam theme in particular.
For what it’s worth, last time I reported an issue on the official thread for that theme (because of this thread), they did end up fixing it after a few weeks.
Anyone can sign up for an account there and give the Discourse team feedback about that particular theme. It works the same way as the SDMB so it should feel pretty familiar (Discourse is the software powering this forum). But no use complaining to the SDMB about it because they’re not the ones changing that theme; Discourse is.
