Did we lose members in the Winter of Missed Content?

Not that I notice anyone missing, you understand, but I notice that we’re almost at 25,000 members (24,927 as of now). Were we at 25,000 before, and the server problems eliminated some people? And is this an accurate number otherwise in terms of how many people actually are on here - in other words, does it include people who have been banned? And do you guys ever actually delete an account? (I’m guessing you do when someone signs up twice accidentally.)

The number includes banned people, several of whom have registered multiple times (and got each username banned in very short order). Occassionally, names are removed in very particular circumstances, but I don’t think that there are any set situations where this is done. The figure also includes a great many people who registered and then posted only once, or not at all: Approximately a third of the registered names have zero posts. The figure does not include an unknown number of people who lurk, but have not registered.

There were certainly some folks who registered during the Winter of Missed Content, and all those accounts were lost. In many cases, folks just re-registered once the board was back up. I’m not sure how many we lost, though, or what the number was just before or after, and it’d take a bit of legwork to find out. At a guess, I think it’s safe to say that we’ve more than replaced the number of posts and users that we lost, just considering the amount of time that’s passed since the re-start.

Were some poster names lost? Yes. (What Chronos said.)
Is this an accurate number? Define accurate. It accurately represents the number of user accounts that have been created, regardless of member status.
Do we ever delete an account? I can’t remember an account ever being deleted.

Well, in that case - hooray for us and 25,000 members!
