Did you actually listen to the words of the song?

Yes, but Anspaugh’s son had REQUESTED it to be sung at his funeral; his favorite band was Green Day & he liked the irony. He was a very bitter teenager.

I was more horrified that no-one else got it.

Damien Rices the Blowers Daughter, most people think its a beautiful lovesong “… I cant take my mind off of you” or “I cant take my eyes off of you”. Then the last line ruins it “Til I find somebody new”. Have heard that one at a few weddings :smack:

A friend was telling me a few years ago about an acquaintance of his who committed suicide. The family wanted to play Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody at his funeral, because it was his absolute favorite song. However, the officiating preacher was smart enough to listen to the song first, and came to the conclusion that a song with a line like “Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me” was inappropriate for a funeral, let alone the funeral of a suicide. (Apparently he did not kill himself with a gun — otherwise I’d think the opening lines of the song would have been enough to nix the idea.)

Ultra-righty radio loudmouth Neal Boortz uses the opening strains of My City Was Gone by The Pretenders as his play-in music.

It’s obvious he’s never listened to the lyrics, because Neal Boortz is the sort of libertarian who would oppose the government doing anything to control rampant development. Farms are being replaced by shopping malls? Eh, whatever. As long as somebody’s making a buck.
