I’m also tired of START’s endless threads about his stupid teenage escapades, but this time he finally did something right. While I agree he needs to get some new friends, and that he shouldn’t be using “gay” as an insult, I think he’s also starting to learn a little bit from us.
I think you jumped the gun, Cajun Man.
START, stop hanging around these kinds of people, and start posting in a live journal. Oh, and don’t use the word “gay” or variations of, as an insult.
Yeah, because the average age on the SDMB is early sixties, right? Christ, how old do you think we are here? Best I can tell, most folks are around my age - college age, early twenties. There’s a number of people older (we lovingly refer to them as the Living Fossils) and a few younger, but most of the people here aren’t all that much older than you. How old are you, anyway?
START is only a few years younger than us, and frankly, those of us who are a few years past 16 probably have more understanding of it than people who are living through it, because we’ve gained a little bit of perspective.
There’s already someone here who crusades for youth rights, and frankly, he’s more than enough. Don’t make that your schtick, please. “[W]ays that you probably won’t ever totally understand”? Geez, you sound like one of those PSAs that target the youth. The ones that go, “Our parents don’t know what we go through every day. Don’t huff spraypaint.” Newsflash: even the aforementioned elderly folks here have a lot of insight, and those of us who can quite distinctly remember being sixteen because it was only a few years ago really don’t need that crap. We’re a hell of a lot too young for the “misunderstood youth” card to work because we played it ourselves with our parents not long ago.
You can make a brave stand here for teenagers to be given hugs and warm cookies, or whatever it is you’re going for, but it’s not likely to happen, and it’s less likely if you whine that no one here understands you.
