Did you go bananas over OS release?

I understand people queuing up for the release of the next World of Warcraft expansion, or a brand new sequel to God of Wars or Final Fantasy. But going all excited over an OS (Windows 7 on Oct 22nd in this case) - do you find it strange, or you find it strange others aren’t even remotely excited?

For me, Windows 7 is the first time in my live that I am excited about an OS release. I am all ready to pop down by a local computer shop to get a copy when it is launched (I won’t be found queuing up for it though). I am looking forward to getting it. I have no idea why.

What about you?

I am unreasonably excited, even though I’ve been running the Beta/RC since they were released. Also, the University of Minnesota inexplicably began selling their student copies on Thursday, so I’ve had a copy sitting on my desk since then. Unfortunately, I had too much homework this weekend to have my computer down for any length of time. Thursday night, though…

Other, I keep my OS upgraded continuously, and don’t have to care about releases.

I pre-ordered my copy. Windows 7 for Students $29.99:

Don’t really use windows, so it’s a complete non-event for me. I do use OS-X but I won’t be upgrading until they fix the guest-login/erase account bug.

Otherwise I use Debian, meaning I upgrade whatever I want whenever I want it, and base-OS releases aren’t really exciting.

Depends on the OS, though. I’m still not planning to upgrade from XP, which works just fine for me.

I’m annoyed by it. It’s another sign that the XP machine I bought years ago – which still works perfectly fine – is getting more and more obsolete.

I’ve been using an evaluation copy* of Win 7 for the last few months so the official release is a bit of a non-event for me.

I do find it a bit strange how some people develop such a dedicated loyalty to their OS, and a hatred for any competing product. It seems a bit like a religious or idealogical affiliation with some.

I begin foaming at the mouth every Mac OSX update. No parties or camping out in line the night before, but I usually really look forward to an OS update. I like new.

This goes for major Application updates as well, at least the software I use everyday like the Adobe suite and Cinema 4D.

I like anything that will make my life easier and/or more fun. Vista is a pain, 7 isn’t. I’ve been running 7 in beta and RC versions since January, so I’m looking forward to going official, but the excitement happened nine months ago.

I have been forced to use a number of different Windows versions through the years and in my opinion each of them sucks worse than it’s predecessor. Somehow Microsoft manages to make every new release an even bigger insult to my intelligence. Need I say that I started my PC days in a DOS environment.

I voted “Others” because I dread it and try to postpone it for as long as possible.

I only go to the next OS when I buy a machine that has it on.

Still using XP…have no interest in upgrading and as soon as I get a new job, I’m dumping the computer and buying a Mac.

But in general, I really don’t care.
