Did you know anyone teachers in your school that had sex with students?

Our games teacher was careful never to look into the boys communal showering corridor. When we were getting too noisy and horsing around he would shout in from the locker room to finish the showering and get out.

I went to a private coed school in Baltimore, in Upper School from 1976 to 1980…we had two male teachers who were in their mid-30’s at the time, divorced with small kids, attractive, gregarious types, one history, one math, the history teacher coached varsity soccer, the math was one of the assistant lacrosse coaches…they openly talked about recruiting upper class girls as ‘baby sitters’ and seducing them - it was a game to them…we all saw things, but no one ever said anything that I knew of…one of my friend’s older sister was one of the girls, we talked about it, he was pissed and embarrassed, but said he’d never tell his parents…even then, we marveled at the fact there were unknowing parents that payed good money so their daughters could screw some horny 30-year old divorced guy…it was a different time, there was an Upper Class smoking lounge, juniors could leave campus with parental consent, seniors could with without parental consent, and the richest kids had the best drugs…I never heard of any of the female teachers doing anything, all of us boys lusted after the 8th grade French teacher and the Upper School librarian was absolutely beautiful, but they were professional and (as far as I know), never expressed an interest in HS boys beyond their teaching duties…

Do I know any teachers? Sure I do.

From August 1977 until March 1979 I was sexually abused by a teacher in my high school about once a month if not more.

Nothing would make me happier and give me some measure of peace than to name him in public. Preferably at a school board meeting.

But since I cannot prove it and it was decades ago the only thing that would happen is that I would get sued.

In the last decade or so I have found out that I was not the only one.

Jurisdictions vary but I would look into a victims rights group near you and/or consult an attorney or psychologist. Either could know a track/trail that would result in something getting done for you and the others as well. Look at a lot of the cases that pop up in the news; some are from things ignored or repressed since the 50s. In some cases the abuser has been long dead. That doesn’t mean its hopeless or you should just “get over it”. Since its clearly something still in your brain, consider going after it.

I agree - and I’m so sorry you went through that, Cartooniverse.
