I was reading the following
article and I couldn’t help but compare this (and various other sources) to what I’ve seen and heard about US attempts at winning over the Vietnamese back in the 70s during that war. (I refer to the medical centre mentioned in the article that the US has set up for the Iraqi people).
The question: Is the US doing anything different with regards to winning over the locals in Iraq that wasn’t tried in Vietnam? If they are what?
If, on the other hand, they are just rehashing the same “look what we can do for you if you let us” that they tried back in Vietnam, WHY would they bother trying seeing as from what I recall (keeping in mind that all I know about that war is mostly what was said through movies/documentaries) the locals back then tended to react negatively to US efforts?
