DIE, you drug-selling, spamming, scumbags

Or, it could be a neural-reprogramming virus aimed at every recipient!

My other favourite Website had a popular discussion forum which eventually became so swamped with spam that it was shut down, relocated, and changed to a confirmed registration to post set-up. Both the time of the volunteers who administered and the wallet of the guy who was hosting the forum couldn’t handle the thousands of spam messages per day.

I didn’t code one for the comments, but I am using captcha on the forums on that site. I’m actually considering shutting the forums down because of the amount of time I waste fighting spammers. Either they’re real people, or they have figured out a way for computer software to read the captchas.

Before changing email providers and getting far better spam filters in the process, spammers, not knowing whether Chris means Christopher or Christine, would send dual emails offering me a 12"+ penis in one and 50"+ breasts in the other.

The financial spam offering access to "secret programs that get me out of credit card debt for “pennies on the dollar” @ a $49.95 enrollment fee and “pennies a day” thereafter is showing up more frequently these days despite the filters.

I’ve been getting spam addressed to “Amanda” for over ten years now. My email address is [firstname]@[lastname].org and my first name is male. I have no idea who Amanda is or was.

I also get large volumes of email specifically targeted at blacks (which I’m not). I wondered for a long time how I got on that particular list, but I think they just bought a generic list.

I will be giggling for weeks. Weeks. I can also get you weaponized fiber optic cable (long story) for your gauntlet.

Though instead of just Woz dancing, might I suggest treating them to a talent competition where stripped down and oiled up system administrators perform dramatic readings of their favorite man pages and RFCs?

I got a strange spam e-mail today insisting that there was a problem with my World of Warcraft account, and if I did not send them all sorts of details, my account would be closed.

I do NOT have a World of Whatsit account, so I’m really not sure how the spammers stand to benefit here.

Celyn - that e-mail is being sent to a large group of people. Of that group, some will have WoW accounts. And of those who have WoW accounts, some may believe the e-mail and send out the details.

It’s like when I get an e-mail from a bank saying “click here to fix a problem with your account”, even though I don’t even have an account with that bank.

And undoubtably they want to hack your non-existant World of Whatsit account so they can use it for gold farming until they’re caught.

Aha, thanks, I sort of thought it was a case of “spam millions in the hope that you catch one”, but it’s good to know.

UPDATE: It looks as though I found a way to fix the problem.

In one week I was informed a Nigerian potentate had no access to his money and only I could make it so he could get to it. I would get 30 percent for assisting him. How could i resist?
Then a German millionaire was locked in her house and could not get to her money. I had the only Email on earth that she could reach. it was worth millions for me to help her out. How could I leave that poor women broke.?
I should have played the Lotto that week ,with so much good fortune shining on me.

I get spam text messages for ringtones and free credits every day and the occasional “You just won the lottery!!! Call this number to collect your winnings!!!” Shocks the beejezus out of me every time, especially if the phone is on a table.

I despise captchas, especially the ones where the letters and numbers are distorted almost beyond recognition. I hate that they’re ineffective against a moderately persistent spammer and yet are still around.

What I don’t understand is spam mail that has no attachment or link to click on and just a few lines on nonsense. ? I can’t imagine why someone would go to the trouble to send spam that serves no purpose but to annoy the recipient so there must be a virus embedded in the text even tho there’s nothing to click, yes?
