I’m sure Skald could come up with an entertaining backstory, but for whatever reason you are forced to consume a bottle of wine - 75cl, 13-14% alcohol, 10.5 UK units - every day for a year. Red, white, rose, sparkling, petillant, still, all are included. So, apart from drinking lots of water, how do you balance the rest of your diet to stay healthy?
Lots of red meat, avocado smothered in Bleu Cheese, escargot swimming in butter, jerky, sunflower seeds, lots of bacon.
And I’d substitute that water thing for beer.
Hey, it’s been working for me for well over a year.
Off the top of my head(*), I think I’d try to follow these strategies:
[ul]
[li]Space out the wine consumption in small quantities so that I never became too snockered, and always eat a high-protein food along side the wine, to slow absorption.[/li][li]Can I cook with the wine? Then I’d try to consume things like blood orange slices poached in red wine.[/li][li]If I get to choose the wine, it would always be a dark grape, in hopes of at least getting a few healthy flavonoids with my alcohol.[/li][li]Spend the rest of my calories on super-healthy foods like dark green leafy veggies, fresh fruit, lean protein, and complex carbs.[/li][li]Not diet-related, but I would try to keep my exercise levels up as a way to counteract the negative effects. Plus burn off the extra calories I’d probably end up consuming.[/li][/ul]
So basically, just strive to follow the usual recommendations for healthy diet/healthy living.
(*) Why is that not a standard internet abbreviation, like AFAIK or BRB of IMHO? “OTTOMH” really should take its rightful place among these common terms.
I’ll stick with the bone-driest champagne I can find, which is relatively ‘healthy’ in terms of total calories and sugar.
We’re looking at maybe 70 calories a glass, six glasses per bottle. So that’s 420 empty calories a day. That’s not *too *terrible. It means sticking to a generally healthy diet and classifying This Our Daily Bottle as the only snack I ever get.
The most important thing is spacing out my consumption over the course of the day.
Thanks for the thread, I’ve been wondering this myself.
