difference between dvd+r and dvd-r

I am buying the HP DVD200i player and the Pinnacle studio av8 video editing.

I am going to use this to convert my vhs tapes to a dvd disk so it will play in all dvd players and distribute to my family.

So here is my question…

What is the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R?

I have searched and found some interesting information, but not this question.

Thanks for the help in advance!!!

Jill

I just wonder how one has the patience to do all these things. I tried converting one video tape to DVD - it was a total waste of time (correction lots and lots of time). The video capture was not that good - maybe the fault was with the Dazzle Video capture.

Anyways, DVD+R and DVD-R are pretty much the same except for the dye or the format or something like that. More here

Holy shit jillsjeeps…this is weird. I logged onto the forum this morning with that EXACT question in mind, as I too, wanted to know if they both work on DVD players…You know what’s spookier? I also just bought Pinnacle Studio AV 8…awesome program, by the way.

The only difference is I’m purchasing the Sony DRU-500A DVD burner, which got amazing remarks by PC magazine in their latest issue.

It can write up to 4x and it was a breeze to use. I suggest you read the article, they couldn’t stop bragging about it.

Yes that is a bit wierd. The reason why I am going with the HP one is that it too was rated high in that same article and office max has it for 349.99 with a 50.00 rebate with a 70 gift card.

So it brings it down in price alot!!

That’s not bad, 300 bucks for a DVD burner…I’ve seen the Sony one I mentioned for $325. The only reason I suggested mine is because I did a quick search on your’s and found that it had some problems burning CDs, however, if you’re only focusing on DVDs, then there shouldn’t be a problem.

I was going to suggest that they get a room.
