The thread about smoking in Europe reminded me of something else I’ve been wondering for a long time.
Why do cigarettes smell so different in various parts of the world?
Cigarettes here in Canada smell just awful. The smell also clings to clothes really easily. For example, I can walk through a smokey bingo hall and my clothes absolutely stink of smoke (no bull shit, this is the truth).
Yet British cigarettes don’t smell anywhere near as unpleasant as Canadian ones (although they still are not pleasant). Clothing never smells of cigarettes afterwards either, no matter how long I spend in a smokey pub or whatever.
American cigarettes smell totally different again. I can recognise American smokes instantly just from one sniff. How clingy they are on clothes I can’t say, as I’ve never been in a smoke filled environment in the USA.
Any ideas on why such a difference?
