dig through the earth

Ok, all logistical impossibilities aside, here’s my question. Suppose you put a hole clear from one side of the earth to the other. You jump into the hole, and start falling down. What happens when you get to the end of the hole? Do you shoot up into the air? Or would you be drawn back to the center of the earth before you even got there?

See What if you fell into a tube through the earth?. If you look there are recent threads on the Boards which also relate to this.

You won’t get to the end of the hole. Air resistance will have reduced your velocity too much.

Simulpost… Yea, what Cecil said.

that’s a good sig line

This is the second thread I have read in the last two weeks on the same subject with the same answers!

*** THWACK!!! THWACK!!! THWACK!!!

Do you have a cite for that?

Would you feel any better if the answers had been different?

My apologies, I may have read the thread twice, and thought it was another one.
