I’m interested in digital still cameras. I’m a physicist with training in optics and electronics, and I’d like to find the most technical references I can about these cameras. What CCD or CMOS imaging chips are used in various model digicams? How are color gamuts manipulated? Are “bad pixel” maps accessible to consumers? Other propellerheads out there: what are your favorite sites on this topic???
Good luck. I tried to get some info when shopping for a digital camera to do some IR and UV experiments. The company reps are damn near useless in topics more advanced than how to install the batteries.
Good place to start - http://www.dcresource.com They have excellent message boards with extremely knowledgable contributers, plus reviews and tests of every model out there.
http://www.dpreview.com is also good.
http://www.shortcourses.com/ has excellent, well written information.
