Digital music with no title/artist etc

I have a lot of music in my library that has no artist, title, or other data. Usually this is from old CDs that just showed up as “Track 1” when I ripped them. Some of them are probably from my ex boyfriend, I just spent 30 minutes deleting a lot of his music. Anyhow, I made a playlist of all the music and I will be noting the song titles and artists so I can edit the file names.

Does anybody else have this problem? Do you edit the file names when you rip a CD to your computer, or do you let it build up like me?

Also, I might be dropping in with songs I don’t know the name or artist of, so hopefully you guys can help with that.

Well, here’s one for instance. The version of “Gary Gilmore’s Eyes” where the singer whispers at the beginning- is that the Adverts version?

Do you use itunes?

-Make sure you’re connected to the internet
-select a “Track 01” song (or songs)
-on the top menu go to Advanced -->Get CD track names

itunes will access Gracenote CDDB and download the track and album information including artwork. Keep in mind your tracks will move around to wherever they’re supposed to go in the sort order you’ve specified.

no iTunes. I’m boycotting the iPod because I like to be contrarian like that.

The CDDB is not a free source. Try using mp3tag. Like most free programs it uses the freedb, which isn’t as complete as the CDDB.
