yes, the Sony digital video camera can be used for video conferencing.
you will need a video chat software such as CUSeeme or Iphone or any such chat software capable of relaying video.
i have even video conferenced using a normal ( non-digital ) video camera connected to a tv-tuner.

Well, I wouldn’t try it unless you have some sort of broadband access. The quality of video off a digital camcorder would require something more than 56K to deliver.
In either case, you’d probably need to go out and buy a couple of wires to hook up audio/visuals to your computer, and you’d need some less-than-mainstream software to deal with it. Video conferencing isn’t what a camcorder is designed to do, y’know. It’d probably be easiest just to spend $50 on a cheap webcam.
I have cable, and i have a webcam (Logitech Quickcam Expres).
