Did Margaret Hamilton really request this as her obituary headline?
If so, classy lady. (Classy lady anyhow!)
…
Off to Cafe Society!
Sorry I don’t have a cite, but I was working at a newspaper at the time where the headline writer got a bit of flack for using that headline.
The next week he made sure to bring in a magazine where she was quoted as saying “I hope when I die some headline writer uses 'Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.”
Margaret Hamilton, from what I have read about her seemed like a really nice person in general. She taught kindergarten for a while, and was a spokesperson for animal rights. And very down to earth - according to her Wikipedia article, she used to say “I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too” all the time after the movie, when the situation warrented!
I always thought Margaret Hamilton was kind of hot. Apparently a good sense of humor too.
I’m sure he didn’t, but I wonder if the coroner was tempted to put on the death certificate “she’s not only merely dead, she’s really most sincerely dead.”
I know the Wicked Witch of the West, but the Margaret Hamilton role I most enjoy was her Miss Sarah Pickett from People Will Talk. It’s an uncredited role, but the presentation of that character is much more compelling than the camp from Wizard.
Yikes.
margaret hamilton was - and is - still my favorite character from the film. i devoured ‘wicked’ by greg maguire.
excellent book.
in fact, i just got my long-awaited ‘don’t make me break out my flying monkeys’ long-sleeve tee just the other day ago in her honor.
Can I ask where you got this? I totally want one. Although considering the fate of the flying monkeys in the latest Oz remake, “Tin Man,” it may have unpleasant new connotations.
this is true. i actually kinda liked ‘tin man’ but that may be because i have a huge crush on neil mcdonaugh. i first saw him in band of brothers. terrific.
iirc, we can’t plug companies on the dope, so feel free to email me at
I liked it too. I actually bought the DVD the other day :o Neal McDonough was definitely a huge factor though. I still remember him from Boomtown.
I will shoot you an email when I get home. Thanks!
I was intrigued by this statement, so I went searching for non-witch pictures of a younger Hamilton so see how hot she was. I was… unsuccessful. I’ll have to agree with Otto.
Yeah. Not seeing it.
On the “10,000 reasons I love pTerry” list:
On another note an obit writer was supposedly fired for reporting Ray Krock was McDead.
Methinks you’ve all been whooshed.
She MELTED.
