Dining in Charleston, SC

I will be in Charleston next weekend, and Mom wants to eat some seafood. I’ve read the earlier threads (2011 & 2006) on this… has anything changed recently? We’re staying on the Peninsula (Meeting St) and want to walk everywhere. Thanks in advance.

(I figure that this thread will contain both opinions and food so I was on the fence as to where to post it.)

My two absolute favorites are Husk an McCradys, not just in Charleston, but in the entire SE U.S. Neither are “seafood” places, but both have excellent seafood dishes.

I was all set to make some recommendations, but then I realized it’s been probably a dozen years since I’ve been to Charleston. I won’t recommend any specific restaurants given the time lag (they may not even exist anymore!), but damn, was the dining ever good there. Charleston hits way above its weight class with respect to quality of restaurants - and not just seafood and $$$ restaurants, but hole-in-the-wall places as well, and everything in between.

Jonathan Chance lives near Charleston; he may have some suggestions based on recent experience.
