I ascertain that this thread reminded me of this Kids in the Hall skit.
Re: physical/fiscal Pacific/specific
They aren’t mispronunciations, they’re somewhat common malapropisms.
“Can you be more pacfic about the location?”
“He shouldn’t have a credit card because he’s physically irresponsible!”
Same with “prostate” and “prostrate.”
I had a coworker that used “profound” and “profane” interchangeably. She started a “swear jar” at work because she *“didn’t want to be known as someone who uses profound language.” * (There was really no risk of that, trust me.)
Not so much a “mispornunciation”, say like when you order “pasghetti.”
Somehow, Beethoven’s fith just isn’t as melodious. What the hell is wrong with that second ‘f’?!? Is it SO difficult to pronounce?? Fifth…FIFTH, damn it!
And don’t even get me started with words borrowed from French…
Cre-tick
sub-tull
cultured (for kosher)
orientate
commentate
mute (for moot)
graft (for graph)
analyzation
fo-mu-la
joyce (for joist)
bew-la-vard
bew-na vis-ta
furn-ni-toor
This ***** is an asterisk, not a stunt performed with your ass.
Vi-ah-gra not dick pills.
Kind of like when my sister tried to call my father and me incompetent. Except she fudged the word. My father and I just stared at her and said “excuse me?!?”
Let’s just say her language skills weren’t all that virile themselves.
My father and me…
…my father and me…
Good job…My other pet peeve is when people use Bob and I when they are supposed to use Bob and me and visa versa.
Not the me and I query AGAIN???
hiltopper, tdn was correct and you should know this if you are going to point the finger at anyone:
My father and I = we = subject of the sentance
My father and me = us =object of the sentance
I don’t think hilltopper was correcting tdn but was instead referring to the actual use of “my father and me,” which was done correctly.
Of course, then hilltopper used another malapropism, “visa versa” …
This sintance have four errors.
dantheman, I see that now, but I must have been mid-post when he/she was posted for the third time. Preview is there for a reason, I suppose.
[b[Zeldar** - har de har har - I like it!

Just shoot me now
Glad you like it, curly chick. One of my fave head scratchers.
Why, “of course?”
And does that make the sentence coincidental or ironic?
What’s wrong with “supposably” – it’s a perfectly cromulent word.
I hate people who say haitch where aitch is called for. Really, hI could stab them with ha fork. Bastards!
Oh, and poncy gits, trying to sound ever-so correct, using yourself/myself where you/me would suffice. Stabbing’s to good for them.
I said “of course” because although the “my father and me” portion of your post wasn’t an error, “visa versa” was. (And I pointed it out because it’s a common misspelling/mispronunciation, as far as I know.)
And it makes it both ironic and an example of Gaudere’s Law, in which a post that points out an error will undoubtedly make an error itself. As this post likely will.
The correct answer is:
“Chop away, baby.”
Errrrg!!! Or EXpresso instead of ESpresso. GAH!
