DirecTV - NFL Sunday Ticket ads with Eli Manning and Tony Romo

Have you seen these new ads? They’re spin-offs of the Cool Rob Lowe/Lame Rob Lowe ad campaign but they feature the two NFL quarterbacks touting the NFL Sunday Ticket feature DirecTV offers every Fall.

I can believe that maybe (MAYBE) Rob Lowe actually has DirecTV and watches it with his friends at home. But they want me to believe two starting quarterbacks in the NFL are sitting at home with chips and dip watching football all day on Sundays?

Maybe Eli and Tony are showing off what they plan to do during the playoffs!

There is such a thing as not playing on Sunday, you know. (Ignore the fact that Romo had a Cowboys game on. Then again, it’s not like he hasn’t been hurt in the past.)

I like it when people not known primarily for acting do this kind of thing. It’s more interesting and funny than with trained actors. Maybe that’s one reason why Eli’s SNL hosting comes up online so much.

Yeah, I get that they’re tongue in cheek and actually they’re kind of amusing to see in that terrible makeup. And maybe my understanding of a typical NFL team off week’s schedule is lacking, but wouldn’t there typically be some kind of team activity on Sundays, even if it’s just watching film? Hey, maybe they just sit in the film room with NFL Sunday ticket on!

Tom Brady as a Full Service Gas Station would be funny if he asks the customer if he should check the tire pressure.

OP, I agree with you.

And I’m not sure it is deliberate tongue in cheek. I think no one notices the contradiction that these guys are not watching Sunday Ticket, they are IN Sunday Ticket.

Though I would love to know if any NFL players actually watch games for entertainment. They probably spend enough time watching game films to be totally sick of it.

I don’t think one would even need it for the playoffs since there are never two games at the same time. But you made a great observation. It is a bit silly to use a starting QB who should be expecting to be too busy on Sundays to actually use the service.

I haven’t seen the Tony Romo one yet, but there is also Andrew Luck playing hide and seek with his cats. I don’t really care if they make sense or not… they are funny.

It is a surprise to no one that Eli Manning is a terrible actor. On the other hand Tony Romo is actually pretty good.

Actually I would expect them to have Sunday ticket, Family often doesn’t travel. and with the Bye week, Thurs night and Monday night games, that would be the time to watch games concerning your division races.

When they are off Sunday, they would probably enjoy watching other’s games.

I can’t quite speak for pros… but I have two kids who play D1 NCAA soccer. They practice pretty much every day in season… they play most weekends… they watch films… and when they are “off” you love to watch soccer games either in person or on TV.

Meh. At least it’s not the SuperAssholes.

How long until DirecTV gets sued again?

When I lived in Hoboken, I saw Eli Manning watching college football at the bar around the corner. So he does watch football from time to time. It appeared that a number of his teammates were also there.

The game was the national championship college game between Florida and Ohio State after the 2006 season, so early 2007. I lived about a block and a half from where Eli lives.

I can’t find it online, but I recall a Walter Payton quote, where he said that he didn’t watch Monday Night Football for the same reason that a secretary doesn’t type on [her] day off.

(Just an anecdote…I’m guessing most players do enjoy seeing games)
