Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (2016 BBC Series)

I just got into this and binged 7 episodes over the last few days. I love it. Yes, this Dirk is very different from the one in the novels, but the show works well as its own thing.
I think the best characters are the assassin and her sidekick. It’s hilarious the way he tries to keep a straight face while this ruthless and skilled assassin shows her complete ignorance of everyday things like recorded music or shampoo. “This drink tastes awful”.
There must be more of a back story to her. I hope they keep the two of them in the new episodes next year.

It’s my favorite show of the year. I’m glad you saw what I did. I can’t wait for the final episode.

I just rewatched Jupiter Ascending the other day and recognized Dirk in it. He played the the bureaucratic assistant droid.

Why???

Heh. Action and special effects mostly. It’s a pretty movie with a dumb Cinderella story.

Is the assassin a dog in human form who got used to it?

I’ve had dogs like her.

And every day I call receptionists who sound just like her.

I dont think so. There’s something else going on with her. She seems to be guided to assassinate by fate or whatever in the same manner that Dirk is guided to solve cases. Also, being a dog wouldn’t make her unkillable.

I’m pretty sure that Dirk, the assassin, and the Three/Four are all tied together via the military program. I suspect we’ll learn more in the final episode.

But she pretty clearly was not even remotely aware of basic elements of life when we first meet her. The radio for example, having no conception that people might know the words to a song or that it might not be unique.

But we learned earlier that the asshole ‘Supreme Soul’ stuck people in animals for long periods of time and it fucked them up. On the third hand, that means there would be some animals in Human bodies.

However, yes, she is part of the program, so I’m going to go with ‘stuck in an animal for so long it mushed her mind’, albeit with a firm conviction that I’m probably wrong.

I think the military program and the hippies with the soul-swapper / time-machine are unconnected. The business about the machines is simply this season’s story arc. The military program, along with Dirk, Bart, and the Rotten Three are an ongoing theme.

Rowdy Three.

As in, “The Increasingly Inappropriately Named Trilogy”

The Rowdy Three do seem to have some sort of affinity with Parafibulitis, which would seem to connect Tod and his sister to the military program, and Tod is also connected to the machine stuff via both his job and his residence, so maybe the two things aren’t as unconnected as I was thinking.
Of course, everything’s connected. That’s the main theme of the show!

I love subtle tributes.

I think it’s just that they feed off strong emotions, and apparently, especially negative ones—fear, pain, and so on. So somebody experiencing painful, real-seeming hallucinations just is an all-you-can-eat buffet for them.

“This guys threw me of a bridge!” and “Let’s go, this guys are nutjobs” cracked me up. Too bad about Estevez.

They certainly left us with a cliffhanger.

It’s obvious that the military knows that they need overwhelming force for certain of their targets. I assume that the universe will somehow protect everyone.

Part of me feels like Tod almost deserves real parafibulitis, but I suppose he’s redeemed himself.

I liked it.

But Dirk’s note back in time said that it went bad, same as before.

Bah! Bart’s got a rock. They don’t stand a chance.

Saw it. Liked it. Very difficult to end such a complicated and weird story.

I guess Todd deserves to suffer hallucinations.

I was disappointed Galen Tyrol died so quickly.

I love to tiptoe through IMDB. Hannah Marks (Amanda) is the granddaughter of Ernie Ball. When I played I loved Ball strings! Guitar strings, pervert. And great-granddaughter of the guy who wrote When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.
