Dirt under the nails and worms galore! IDBB plants some flowers and schtuff!

So yesterday when I get home from work, CG isn’t there. He calls to tell me when he’ll be home because he went with our neighbor Ron to get a bedliner sprayed into Ron’s new truck. What he DIDN"T tell me is that he’d also been to Home Depot and bought flowers a nd compost.
So we ate dinner last night and then borrowed Ron’s Garden Claw (which I now covet…teehee…)so we could rip up the soil in our weed beds and get rid of the weeds. We spent two hours last night planting Canna lillies, Sedumas, and around our Bradford Pear tree in the front yard…these little beauties . The other plants he bought I can’t think of the name of right now cuz it’s waaaaaaaaaaaay too early but they are little pinky-white-red flowers with spiky little petals which are kind of the border at one end of the flower bed.
Last year we got notices several times from the HOA for not having flowers in our ‘flower bed’. This year they won’t have ANY reason to complain. It’s gonna look so purty when it’s blossoming and filled in a bit.

I planted my annuals this weekend too.
Begonias (scarlet, pink, white), Pansies, Phlox, Alyssum, and some Daisy-looking things whose name I can’t recall right now. They definitely brighten up the whole yard, and I filled in all my window boxes and hanging baskets too. Now sitting out on the porch is quite relaxing, and it smells so lovely too. All that’s left is the lilac bushes I bought to go in the back, and some lillies and a red feathery grass I bought to go back along the side of the house where it’s almost always shady.

Now I’ve just got to wait for the bulbs I planted a few months ago in the front corner beds to finally pop up. I know perennials are the better choice in the long run, but I’m just so damn impatient! Annuals are definitely the instant gratification of the garden set.

CG bought stuff the garden guy said were perennials because we are definately NOT into planting stuff EVERY single year. I can’t wait till they bloom because I know they are going to be so pretty and the info-tab on the Sedumas said they are a plant that attracts butterflies. YAY! Butterflies and birds are like TV for my cats. Eventually, when we can afford it, we’re also going to buy HUGE pots or barrells so we can put plants out on the deck. I’m thinking of either Wave Petunias or maybe some Gerbera daisies.
