‘Penetrate’ and ‘Fondle’ ick me out.
Even when Penetrate is used in some sort of benign way, the context always seems to suggest something sexual. Like in movies, when someone says “they’ve penetrated our defenses!” too many times it involves knocking down some gate with a battering ram, or ramming some vehicle through some barrier, or driving a train through a tunnel (okay that doesn’t have anything to do with it but that imagery in films cracks me up).
I’ve never heard the word fondle used in a ‘good’ way. I think its worse than ‘grope’. Fondle seems to be always used in sentences like “His sister was fondled by a pervert”. And I always imagine it being some sort of grabby, kneading type motions, like someone kneading dough. In romantic contexts, I always hear the word ‘caress’ or something similiar…I’ve never heard someone say “I really enjoy being fondled”.
‘Manhandled’ is another bad one. Kinda sexist, too.
