This drives me mad. Ever since I first started reading the board with Tapatalk on my Android tablet and on my phone some months ago, every time I post here, my SDMB signature is added. I disabled it from a browser in user cp (in fact, I never had it switched on), and it never happens when posting from a browser regardless of particular browser or OS, but every fucking time with Tapatalk. I didn’t find any settings for that in Tapatalk, and Google didn’t help. Maybe some doper can release me.
P.S.: I’m not talking about the Tapatalk sig. It was easy to turn that off.
I assume you don’t want to just remove your signature, right? Because I’m pretty sure that works. And you could always just keep it in a text file and paste it in when you needed it.
I did that, and alas, the signatures are gone. But I’m confused: does this setting make signatures invisible only for me? And only my own signature, or those of every other poster too? What I wanted was to hide my signature from every poster. So, do you still see my sig in thistest thread?
FYI, this is not what the OP is asking. The OP is asking for a way to not have his signature posted whenever he posts to the board from Tapatalk. It’s a similar situation to the default configuration of vBulletin, where the “show your signature” box is checked by default. You guys, like most boards, edited the style so that the box is unchecked and people have to check it to post their signature. Tapatalk has a similar setting.
If you guys want to set up Tapatalk consistly with the web interface and disable the posting of signatures with every post, here’s what you do:
Update Tapatalk to the latest version (4.4), by copying the latest mobiquo directory to your server and importing the local plugin file. Directions are on the Tapatalk site next to the download link, the whole thing should take 2-3 minutes. You will need to reenter your API key in the Admin CP / vBulletin Options / Tapatalk Options, which you can get by logging into the Forum Owner section of the Tapatalk site if you don’t have it written down somewhere handy.
Edit mobiquo/config/config.txt and change the line that reads:
forum_signature = 1
to
forum_signature = 0
If you don’t want to update Tapatalk for some reason, I believe there’s a similar way to do this with older versions, although depending on the version it may require editing multiple php files. I would argue in favor of upgrading, though, as there’s no real downside.
Right, that’s exactly what I’m asking for. That’s why I was a bit confused by TubaDiva’s answer.
**
Giraffe**, if I understand you correctly, the issue is not on my side, but on the board’s, is it? I’m just a little puzzled that no one else noticed this glitch yet.
Correct, there’s nothing you can do on your end. And it’s not really a glitch, just the default configuration of Tapatalk. As for why it hasn’t gotten much attention, I don’t know that there are many Tapatalk users here. Many Dopers tend to be…slow to embrace change.
After Giraffe’s useful explanation of the problem, is there any chance that the administrators will approach the issue? Even if, as he suggested, not many dopers use Tapatalk yet, I guess their number will increase in the future, and it would be nice if the handling of signatures from Tapatalk was consistent with the usual behaviour.
