The past week or so, I’ve been refurbishing some Epson thermal printers that are used in IBM cash register machines, myself and two other co-workers have sort of an assembly line going
For the most part, I’ve been using the cleaning chemicals without gloves, it’s basically Simple Green degreaser, but I had to get some more aggressive chemicals today for some truly disgustingly filthy printers (not Mike Rowe Dirty Jobs dirty, but close)
I grabbed a pair of blue Nitrilite gloves, and as I put them on, I couldn’t resist saying…
“Two by Two, Hands of Blue”
My co-worker immediately got a rather… scared… look in his face, and jokingly backed away from me, saying “keep away from me, you gorram Alliance man…”, we then looked at each other and laughed
Yes, I’m working with nerds
…maybe I should get a “Blue Sun” t-shirt from ThinkGeek and wear that to work…
I used to wear a t-shirt with the Serenity logo to work sometimes (I work at an ad agency). I never had anyone recognize it (and there’s a fair number of geeks in the agency), though a few people assumed it was a Seinfeld reference (“serenity now!”)
I have a Fruity Oaty Bar shirt and most people assume it’s just another faux-japanese design. My immediate friends are familiar with it, but I haven’t had anyone else mention the reference.
It’s still a cute shirt though.
Blue Sun is the shadowy organization that’s after River. I think it’s mostly from the comic books. Well, and seasons 3 and 4, but since those don’t exist, we have to make do.
I wear this at cons. Even there a lot of people do a double take, probably because of preconceived notions of what it is vs. reality. On the street, I haven’t gotten a reaction so far.
A guy I know who kinda reads Chinese said the two characters are “mind sick” so we were guessing it’s genuine Chinese.
Early in the episode ‘Ariel’, Jayne is wearing a Blue Sun t-shirt, and River attacks him, slashing at the logo with a knife. None of the characters connect that the shirt might have had something to do with River’s actions, but fans have been speculating about it for years.
I won a Blue Sun t-shirt at Can’t Stop the Serenity 2010. Wore it once, then haven’t since because I had Summer Glau sign it at Fan Expo. (Washed it before I brought it to the expo, by the way.)
