Gary Larson once commented on a reactions concerning similar liberties taken for the purposes of humor. He once did a “Far Side” featuring a tired-after-a-long-day suburban Mr. Mosquito dragging himself through the door and commenting to Mrs. Mosquito something like “What a day, I must have spread malaria to half of North America”. He included it in his “annotated” edition, and commented on the number of people who wrote to tell him that only the females sucked blood. He observed that people objected to this but apparently didn’t see anything wrong with the fact these mosquitos lived in houses, wore clothes and spoke English …
