Ahhhh! The atmosphere! Ahhhhh!

Okay, what’s everybody think of these deliberately cheesey commercials for The Discovery Channel? I must have seen the first one (the mosquito one) five times before I even realized what they were advertising. Something about the deadpan way the meteor guy delivers that last line cracks me up though.

Gosh, I love those. Something about the guys’ accents makes it even funnier.

Hafta tell you, I think those are the greatest commercials to be produced in a long time. Not just the cheesey ones, but the other recent ones discovery has done (What you know… grows up to what you don’t know… etc). Colours are great. So 70’s.

“Hello fellow partially eaten fish.”

Just cracks me up.

Those commercials kill.

The deadpan delivery makes them. If they had been hamming it up, it would have made them annoying, I think.

These are among the few commercials that make me laugh no matter how many times I see them. Anyone seen the new “mosquito” one yet? Not as funny as the asteroids, but pretty good.

Hello, Mosquito.

I love those commercials, too. My son gets a kick out of the partially eaten fish one. My fave is the asteroids.

“Ah. The atmosphere. Ah.”

Of course, in the commercial, the mosquitoes are both male–and considering only female mosquitoes bite and suck blood, this seems a rather glaring error on the part of a channel that prides itself on educating people about nature.

I love the big hand at the end of the mosquito one, funny as hell. My fav is the astroid one though.

Which one came first? I saw the mosquito one first, and assumed that one came first…

Damn that itchy trigger finger.

That huge, very realistic hand kills me. I also love the extremely visible wires holding the meteors and mosquitos.
