My favorite commercial ever is running often on the radio right now. It’ for tusconhelpwanted.com. They’ve had radio commercials for years now, often pretty humorous, but this one in particular just kills me. I can’t find in on the web, but it goes something like this-
Boss: Hello?
Employee: I can’t come in today. My mother died.
Boss: But your mother died two weeks ago.
Employee: Oh, the doctor resucitated her at the funeral. And the orphan that I adopted from Romania last night is sick. * Wah. Wah. * Coming, uh… Lupe. Wah.
Boss: Very strange cry.
Employee: He’s Romanian, duh!
Every time I hear it I crack up- it never gets old. I also like the cell phone ads with the mom and the teenagers fighting over rollover minutes.
And that mother with the rollover minutes? I want to punch her stupid face every time. Saw her recently on L&O:SVU as an assault victim who had her face slashed; I tried, but couldn’t feel bad about that!..TRM
Their facial expressions, especially hers, are what I find so funny about the commercials. There’s so much simmering crazy just underneath hers and such defiance and bravery in the kids’, and yet it’s all so mundane and silly. I find them genius.
I love these too, especially the one where he spits up at the end and says “Whoa!”
One of my favorites is the Southwest commercial where they ask “Why do they hate your bags?” I think there’s a slightly different and better version, but this is the one I found on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9bkl-ci_UU
I’ve never seen the commercial described in the OP, but it sounds funny.
And I’m torn as to if I love or hate those rollover minutes commercials. The reasons to love and hate them have already been described here and I have nothing more to add except that I’m torn.
The commercials I do absolutely know that I love are simply brilliant! It makes me sad they didn’t get shown too often, or even recently anymore.
For some reason I really like the Carnival Cruises commercial with the guy in the track suit talking about the waterslide. I’ve seen it a lot on the Travel Channel and the Food Network and somehow memorized it. My fiance hates it when I recite it along with it. But I can’t help but say “BUCKLE UP, BUTTER CUP!” and make air fists. And sing along with the song. And make an obnoxious honking sound at the end when the horn at the end.
Another fan of the Discovery Channel’s “Boom De Yadda” commercials. I don’t know if it’s shown any more but the Santa Claus riding a Norelco razor commercial was a fave of mine too.
I knew Xmas was coming when the TV channels out of Pittsburgh started showing the Xmas tree and star commercial. So sweet!
