Spinoff of this thread. Are there any commercials out there at the moment that make you smile?
I like theseadsfrom U.K. insurance-comparison website Compare the Market, which feature a meerkat named Aleksandr who explains that the site shouldn’t be confused with his Compare the Meerkat website. There’s even a blooper reel.
For anyone in the mood for something a bit more classic, here’s a link to a directory of Rowan Atkinson’s Barclaycard commercials, in which he played an inept spy. They were sufficiently well-received that he was able to milk the gag for an entire movie, 2003’s Johnny English.
Funny you should bring this up.
I had yet to see a Burger King commercial that didn’t completely repulse me…until the other day. The new one that’s a cross-promotion with the new Star Trek movie, with the “Kingons”–honestly, it was the first one with the creepy King that didn’t make me throw up a little in my mouth.
Well, I guess even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Liberty Mutual Insurance had a series of commercials a while ago in which a series of people see someone doing something helpful to perfect strangers and are inspired to be helpful to someone else in turn, with a very nice song whose lyrics I can’t recall this moment. I liked those.
Budweiser’s “Real Men of Genius” commercials were hilarious.
I always like to look at the Corona beer commercials, even if I find their beer to be peewater.
I’m still liking Flo the insurance girl.
I liked the old “unpimp your ride” Volkswagen commercials with Peter Stomare so much that I still occasionally look them up on youtube to laugh all over again.
Heineken usually has good ads and their recent ones are great:
Kids singing along to Biz Markee in the back seat…cut to a hand cranking up the volume on the car stereo who turns out to be the “old guy” cabbie belting out “You…you got what I neeeeeeeeeed!!!” Funny!!!
and
Group of yuppie girls being shown around one of the girls fabulous new house: “And this…is the closet!!” and she flings open the door to a super duper walk in closet, all the girls start screaming and hugging each other. Then all of a sudden they hear a manly scream…cut to the men in the new-house guy’s walk-in Beer Closet!!! They are skipping and screaming and jumping up and down, it is just hilarious and definitely the best commercial on TV right now.
Sorry can’t link to YouTube right now or would just show 'em!
A similar theme shows up in a new commercial I like for Nivea men’s body wash. It begins with obnoxious frat-boy types with their usual attitudes, hairdos, etc. like on those stupid Axe or Tag body spray commercials. Then they cut away from those losers, and the narrator says, “finally a body wash for grownups.”
I’m a big old sap, so I like the ATT commercial where the guy sends a pic of himself from all around the world, then a pic of her sitting waiting for him.
Of course, it hasn’t made me get an ATT phone, but since it *has *made me remember it, it has done its job.
The one that’s on currently with the hamsters driving the red car past all the other hamsters driving hamster wheels.
The one where they’re herding cats across the plains (showed a few years ago during the Super Bowl)–forget what it was advertising
The Esurance commercials with the pink-haired Kim-Possible-like character
The Quiznos “Spongmonkeys”
Several of the old Budweiser Clydesdale commercials (playing football, the one with the foal who wants to grow up to drive the wagon, and the one with the Dalmatian)
Quiz:
If a site that often comments on your work has a user that often will post comments to the main articles about how much you suck, when you make a new product do you:
Not the whole commerical, but there’s this ad, I think it’s for a phone, and in the middle, there’s a clip of “Hymie the talking boxer” (dog, not pugilist) that just cracks me up every time. Ahrooroorooro.
