I’ll open the bidding with this Lowe’s commercial about a couple relating their adventures in buying their first house. The wife’s a cutie, and I love how she is entirely calm through all the catastrophes (waist-deep flood, being stuck in a hole in the floor, her husband dangling for his life from the roof) but is reduced to tears by the bad paint job. “It’s really green!”
But that’s just me. What currently-running commercials amuse or touch you? (YouTube links not mandatory but strongly encouraged.)
I’m probably gonna be ridiculed for this, but I loves me the Kia commercial with the rapping HamstArsin it. I don’t know why, but I laugh my ass off whenever it comes on.
I also normally hate the Orkin commercials with the oversized insects in them, but the one with the hot tub cracks me up.
This cracks me up every time I see it. I especially love the immature cheese’s snotty tone of voice, and the way the scientist underlines “NOT ready!” (I also love the Interrupting Cow joke.)
Also, the 877-CASH-NOW commercial with the Viking-hatted opera singers. My husband and I sing along in dramatic fashion!
I continue to laugh out loud at the little piggy commercial, even after seeing it half a dozen times. I was actually tempted to start a thread about that commercial, but I was embarrassed. :o
Oh man. This commercial cracks me up more than it has a right to. IT’S SO FREAKING STUPID YET I LAUGH. Every single time. Yeah, the cheese’s tone of voice, and that laugh, are what gets me.
I like that one because the young couple is so hilariously inept, and apparently bought the worst house in America.
Another one I like is this one for Subaru, featuring a father giving first-time driving advice to his daughter. It doesn’t hurt that the (older) daughter is really hot. (FYI, a website I found claims that both girls are his real-life daughters.)
I love that Subaru commercial too, especially since the father in the commercial reminds me so much of my dad. He was the same way—“Is your seatbelt adjusted okay? Are your mirrors okay?” --even after I got married and moved away.
I don’t own an iPhone, but I’m a sucker for their recent commercials showing the two-way video phone calls. There are three that come to mind:
The young woman showing her husband her new very short haircut. Her pleading for him not to laugh, and then the reveal and then his reaction (“it’s REALLY cute!”) followed by her admitting that she likes it too. It helps that the actress really is extremely cute!
The dad talking to his teenaged daughter that just got braces. She’s pouting and he’s trying to get her to smile, but she’s refusing. So he sings a goofy song and she can’t help breaking into a grin. He tells her she looks beautiful and she says “Thanks, Dad,” and you can tell he just made a big difference in her day.
The woman telling her husband that they’ve succeeded in conceiving a child. The woman can barely contain her excitement as she relays the news.
I think Geico has had the most consistently entertaining commercials for a long time (with the glaring exception of the googley eyed stack of money). I too love the little piggy, heck, the whole “rhetorical question” campaign. My current favorite is the one with R. Lee Ermey as the therapist.
