Discussion for the Israel-Hamas War: A thread in the Pit

There are many things “less than that” that would fix a lot of problems in the immediate term. Such as halting Israel’s persistent policy of genocidal and ethnic-cleansing attacks, along with abuse and torture of prisoners and continued territorial expropriation by expanding settlements. That would reduce some very severe problems currently inflicted on Palestinians very considerably.

The people who refuse to advocate for those desperately needed fixes because they claim to be totally focused on a more ideally just and harmonious solution that, conveniently, will remain in the theoretical future until and unless sovereignty conflicts and Palestinian acts of terrorism have completely disappeared are, let us just say, not arguing in entire good faith.

Calling the Gaza campaign “genocidal” is inaccurate. There is absolutely no intent on Israel’s part to exterminate the Gazans or depopulate Gaza.

I agree. Torture is ineffective and the settlement of the West Bank needs to stop.

Take it up with the UN Commission of Inquiry. If they, and the Lemkin Institute, and Amnesty International, and B’Tselem, and all the other highly knowledgeable institutions that have agreed Israel’s actions qualify as “genocidal” decide they used that term incorrectly, I’ll be happy to modify my language to correspond.

Till then, though, I think I’ll continue to rate their analysis higher than the opinion of some random stranger on the internet asserting that they’re wrong.

So oppressing, raping, brutalizing, and murdering Palestinians is okay because they don’t want to be Israeli citizens? If they decided they wanted to be Israeli citizens, would that suddenly make it wrong?

Assumes facts not in evidence.

Right, those Palestinians in the West Bank getting brutalized and murdered and having their property vandalized and stolen are totally all just making it up.

Israeli general warns settler terrorism in the West Bank could lead to a Palestinian uprising.

No fucking shit. Treating people like garbage can have consequences.

No no no, see, any Palestinian violent uprising automatically turns all Palestinians into terrorists who have no rights or legitimate claims, while automatically nullifying any and all terrorism and oppression inflicted on Palestinians by Israelis.

Ultimately, Palestinian violence is what Israeli hardliners and expansionists want. Because as long as Palestinians can be portrayed as an undifferentiated mass of violent antisemitic terrorists (or even just as a quasi-sentient lumpenproletariat hopelessly under the thumb of violent antisemitic terrorists), we can continue ducking the question of Palestinians’ legitimate claims to rights and sovereignty.

You should take that up with the guy up thread in the other thread who made the claim that Israelis lie about everything because you know, they’re just slimy ontologically dishonest creatures. I haven’t seen anyone in this thread talk about Palestinians as a class of people in the same disgusting way.

Whoever this fantasy person is, fuck them. Fuck that figment of your imagination! Fuck 'em hard!

Smapti would like a word with you.

I have nothing against Palestinians. I have a problem with Hamas.

Now who’s conflating all Palestinians with terrorists?
