Discussion of Pit rules

Lynn just posted this message to the sticky of pit rules

If I interpret this correctly, I cannot post urging folks to contact their congressional representative when some idiot politician proposes to make, say, internet BB’s illegal? I cannot suggest to folks that if they wish to protest the administration’s actions that, say, it’d be easy to look up the address of the White house? or that simply by putting “White House, Washington DC” would be sufficient?

When some faux news service prints some wrong information, I cannot link to the editorial page of said news service?

I understand the example given. But the statement as written would also make these other actions wrong.
Clarification please?

As I understand current policy, yes, both actions are wrong. I’ll take it up in mod email, and let you know about the outcome.

For the Straight Dope

That doesn’t seem particularly unreasonable. You’re free to make clear your views on a particular subject and, if other people agree with you to the extent that they want to make a protest in this way, they are perfectly capable of finding out the way to do so.

Internet campaigns along the lines of ‘lets all mail this person’ are pretty lame.

I also agree. Most Elected politicians have a special public address where they expect and desire such comment. As long as it is a such a publicly held address for an Elected Official, I can’t see the harm. Or, failing that, a link to their Government home page should be acceptable.

I also agree with Wikkit- maybe there needs to be a warning or something that PIT threads can & do turn on you. One did one me, but it was hardly a trainwreck, so I could laugh it off, and say “well, it’s OK by me if the Mods close it, but other dudes are having fun, so if they decide to keep it open, that’s OK too.”

Just wondering…

Does anyone have any fucking idea what the god damn rules are now? Or should we just start over?

So are we now making up the rules as we go along? I’m sure that’s the mods job, but really people. I’ve now been warned for this thread which I started a year ago. Not because its a zombie, but because it violates the rules. Where was my warning in March? And who decides that the rules aren’t good, and we need to change them. I pit, because I can, and I don’t think I need someone telling me I can’t be upset at something in my life, on the boards or off. If you don’t want to read it, don’t open it. I don’t care if you like me, this isn’t a popularity contest after all.

Is this what a meltdown looks like up close?

No meltdown, just the need to point out the stupid and absurd. Even harder than fighting ignorance I tells ya.

Again, you totally missed the point. Are you being purposefully obtuse?
