Discussion thread for the Hamas Attacks Israel thread, October 2023

Incompetence would be to start a guerilla religious war in the hopes other countries join in.

No, these are acts of resistance against colonialism. During 2023 Israel killed 477 Palestinians in occupied territories outside of Gaza. In the Oct 7 uprising 695 Israeli civilians were killed. The conflict should be viewed in proper context.

Lets us all celebrate Hamas for their brave acts of Rapesistance. Thank you for recognizing their bravery and heroism, @Crane.

Those two points are not mutually exclusive.

Good point, militant resistance is an act of war.

The issue is that Israel is engaged in the form of local colonialism employed by Nazi Germany. Though less kind than the Waffen SS, Israel seeks the same ends. That is bound to arouse resistance by those being colonized.

less kind?

Much less.

People these days just don’t appreciate how kind and considerate the Nazis were. /s

They might give it some thought compared to the IDF.

This is MPSIMS, not the pit. It’s not even p&e. Please refrain from incendiary language, or you’ll be banned from the thread altogether.

I’m sure you can find a way to say that you think the IDF is doing bad stuff without saying, “it’s literally worse than Hitler”.

Just to be clear - that was for Crane and not me, correct?

Yes that was directed at Crane.

I have been appropriately chastised and will mend my ways. I apologize for the offense.

Crane

Oh please

Looks like Bibi’s clock is ticking.

Both Gallant and Gantz have given Netanyahu ultimatums over planning for the day after the war ends in Gaza.

My guess is that the unity government is not long for the world. It did its job during the heaviest fighting; now that the war is being wrapped up, it’s time for the political fights necessary to secure a lasting victory.

The war is wrapped up when Hamas no longer has the means or will to fight. That is not yet the case.

Netanyahu will not go gently.

Especially if it is in handcuffs from his corruption charges.

If they really want to end Hamas they need to go after the leadership living in luxury in Qatar and not keep smashing the rubble in Gaza yet again.

Not that they shouldn’t, but what would change on the ground if Haniyeh and co were eliminated while leaving Sinwar et al in place?
