Yeah. If that was the actual conversation and I were the father of the child I’d have to show him the trick where my foot disappears up his a**.
Other than that, what Dio said.

Well, define “suggest”; it has a pretty broad range.
Well, we don’t know what actually happened. We only have a secondhand account from someone who’s disgusted. Anyway, even assuming it’s exactly as described, I can’t really summon any RO, here.
To clarify, I believe the child is his because he’s been through this with another assistant. But they aren’t a couple and the relationship is businessy
I’m giving the OP the benefit of the doubt and assuming the situation is as he described it. I have no reason to do otherwise.
Just out of curiosity, who was the first person to mention the word “abortion” to you? The nephew? The assistant? Did you witness a conversation between the two on this subject?
If he’s the father, then yes, his behavior is disgraceful. If he told her, “Get an abortion or you’re out of the act!”, then his behavior is disgraceful.
But if she’s simply “one of his female assistants” per the OP who can’t do her job because she got herself knocked up, and she said something like, “So I suppose you want me to get an abortion,” and he said yes, then not so much.
If he said that in front of me, I’d have shown him my magical “disappearing pencil” trick . . .
I saw that one in The Dark Knight. The guy’s a jackass, but isn’t that a bit…harsh?
I agree that the phrasing is horrible (if that is the phrasing he used). But letting his assistant go because she’s pregnant … well, I can see why sawing a pregnant lady in half might take away from his act, yes. It would be good of him to hold her job, but there are some positions where you just can’t expect a lot of job security, and I’d assume “magician’s assistant” is on that list. Although I have to admit I’m not very familiar with the industry.
He was dipping his wand in company ink?
Sounds like either way he’s going to be paying her - either salary or child support.
Your nephew is disgraceful - getting people pregnant that he doesn’t want to raise children with even without his crappy attitude is disgraceful. If you have any kind of heart-to-heart with him, you might want to mention this nifty little invention they have now called “birth control.”
I just wanted to say I realize the OP’s name is supposed to be “Do It Dan” because I could see the serifs on the I on his name under the thread title, but the font is different inside the actual thread, and it looks like “DoltDan.” As in, “DOLT DAN.” I just now realized this - the whole time, I had thought the guy’s username was the latter, not the former.
You’re disgusted by this? My nephew’s a ventriloquist…
I simply don’t believe the OP. While the pregnant assistant scenario is plausible, the setup requires that:
1: The woman nonsensically believes she could somehow stay employed while pregnant, which is not logical
2: The notion that an employer would say “get an abortion” instead of “I’ll have to get a replacement”. Unless he’s an ex-strip club boss, I can’t see this coming out of the mouth of a professional magician.
Sure, it’s possible, but I don’t think it’s probable.
So? Does his dummy give him wood?
Man. What is it with you hecklers, always trying to ruin the act?
Sure she could, if it’s a complex act with a bunch of assistants–it’s entirely plausible that the roles could be shifted around until she was pretty far gone, and that the act could be reworked for whatever period of time she was unable to work at all: after all, they must have some sort of plan for if one of the assistants is sick or sprains an ankle or something.
Now, it’s probably not reasonable to assume you’ll be paid for the time you aren’t working–lots of places don’t do that–but if it’s a big, professional act I don’t think it’d be crazy for the job to be held.
If we take the OP at face value she was the girl designated as “fitting into the illusion”. Beyond this I can’t ever recall seeing a pregnant “showgirl type” magician’s assistant in any part of a standard stage magic. A lot of stage magic is supposed to be about the perceive illusion of danger in many cases. Having a pregnant women present in that environment, even as an assistant, would (to give the purported vile nephew his due) be somewhat off putting to many people.
Would it seem more believable if the OP had mentioned his nephew’s Snidely Whiplash moustache?
