Dish users: help with TV remote, please

Please note that I am not at the TV in question, but I will be tomorrow.

I am looking in on my best friend’s little dog while she is away for two weeks. Her dog is a sweet and high-energy little terrier. Anyway, today while I was spending some quality time with the dog, the remote got knocked off my friend’s bed and into the dog’s bed, where it presumably got bounced on or trounced on or something.

When I came back into the room, the TV, which had been playing Star Trek TNG, showed only a Dish icon bouncing around the screen. My hamhanded attempts to toy with technology I don’t understand resulted in the screen now showing “26” and “no signal.” (I picked a number at random to try and change the channel to.) Any other number I try shows that number and “no signal.” I couldn’t find a “last” button, and channel up/down does nothing. I am almost certain that the bill is paid up. Is it possible that something has come unplugged?

The TV is supposed to be on, I think, the SyFy channel to keep the dog company. She is an avid TV watcher, and enjoys barking at certain very specific things of which she does not approve.

I don’t want to be a dog-sitting failure. Please help me put her TV back to rights!

If the dish box is by the TV, try 01/02/03. If there isn’t the box, try 71/72/73. Once you see the bouncy dish logo, hit the round select button.

MissTake: Okay! That would be 01 with the number buttons, and does the slash represent a button-push too? Like, is it 01 enter 02 enter etc?

I mean, if the box is next to the TV, try channel 01 or 02 or 03 - it could be any one of those three.

Most likely, the TV got switched off the Dish input and onto the TV tuner. It’s now tuned to channel 26 and there’s nothing there. You want to change the input back to whatever the Dish receiver is connected to. You may want to first trace the cable from the receiver to the TV and see which input it is connected to (assuming it’s connected to the TV and not an intermediate receiver). Then you want to change the TV to that input. Unfortunately exactly how to do that will depend on the TV what kind of remote you’re using (original TV remote? universal remote? etc). Possibly there will be a button labeled “input” or “source” or something like that. Use that until you get the Dish input back. Then switch the Dish receiver back to the channel you want.
