And Disney frequently releases PG-13 and R-rated fare under its Touchstone and Miramax banners.
Shush. Quit bringing facts into this.
I mentioned that. The average American does not immediately associate Miramax, et al, with Disney. Depending on how the acquisition goes, people in the future may or may not associate Marvel with Disney, but as of this moment, it’s news.
And if you think anything on ABC compares to Marvel MAX . . .
Yes please! Any casting ideas for Jennifer?
I’m thinking Pinocchio can take Magneto in the Disney vs Marvel video game
Demi Lovato IS Teen She-Hulk!
Just think! Ultimate Goofy! One Mouse Day! Wolverine’s new catchphrase: “Let’s Get Dangerous!” And imagine the songs!
Damn Disney for sanitizing Pulp Fiction & the Jay & Silent Bob films!
We need to do way with instain X-mothers who kill their X-babby because X-babby can’t fright back… OOPS, they can! Watch out for the adamantine claws, Instain X-mothers!
Touchstone was specifically created for the purpose of letting Disney branch out to non-kiddy stuff.
But just because Disney can and has let production companies simply continue to do what they do doesn’t mean that Disney will do so in this case. It might just be a purely financial deal. Buy while the buying’s cheap. But it might also have come to be due to some specific long-term business strategy. In that case, it’s just a question of whether Marvel already fills the role Disney has pegged for it, or whether it is going to have to morph over to something a bit different than its current incarnation.
Something occurred to me that made me hopeful for this buy out. I have three words for you:
Essential Uncle Scrooge
Failing that I’ll take a Visionaries: Carl Barks.
They’ve been republishing the classic Barks Uncle Scrooge stuff for years. Unfortunately, it ain’t cheap.
Actually, they haven’t. The last proper reprint of Carl Barks material was in the mid-90’s and that stuff is so expensive now you might as well put your kids through college instead of getting it. There have been a handful of “best of” collections but those are several years old at this point.
They have started reprinting Don Rosa’s stuff very recently (as in the first ones were solicited in the past month or two) which I can’t complain about either since I’ll finally be able to afford a copy of The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck which I missed on the last printing.
Besides, an essential means it’ll be cheap.
What? There’s at least one or two Carl Barks stories in Uncle Scrooge every month, and it’s only $6.95.
Hell no to Essential, because it’s black and white. I want all 4 colors, damnit!
Donald Duck meets Howard the Duck maybe ?
No. I know that’s a joke but just no. Heh.
I would just like to see updated, well-written, not “edgy” by any means but just slightly less than 100% how-could-this-possibly-be-any-more-sanitized stories with these characters. Especially Scrooge. The Life and Times was great. I’d like to see more like that but with an art style leaning just slightly more towards what Marvel does.
BOOM! Studios is taking over the Disney license, and since their Muppet comics (which I highly recommend) are only $2.99, I wonder if the Disney comics will be the same. (They’re also doing a number of trade paperbacks, including a two-volume reprint of Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck.)
I can’t believe no one’s mentioned what this really means: Pixar-animated Marvel-character movies.
Andy could be getting a lot more action figures for his toy collection.
No, I don’t think that’s the right pictoral description.
This article is very informative. Also, the picture attached will scar the mind of people in direct proportion to how big a Marvel Zombie they are.
