Disney Acquires Marvel

“Face it Tigger, you just hit the jackpot.”

That’s kind of disturbing even if you’re not a huge Marvel fan. Funny, though.

This just in: the new Avengers movie will have a 4 minute song-and-dance routine, with talking chipmunks.

I figured Marvel would need a parent company sooner or later and even predicted it here months ago, but I thought it would be Fox.

It’s good that somebody with deep pockets bought them. Marvel had a brush with bankruptcy in 1996 and though they’re steadier now, I have to figure their revenues from comic-book sales are tenuous compared to what they can get off of merchandising their characters into toys, TV shows and movies. At least now Marvel could afford to have a few lean years in publishing here and there and Disney will be okay with it as long as they keep publishing (and thus maintaining their legal claim to) their various character trademarks, with management and protection of such trademarks being a Disney speciality.

The cartoon made me laugh a good ten seconds, there.

I think this is the future of Marvel.

Can the Spider-man/Dumbo crossover be far behind?

In one day, two different people independently came up with the idea of a Goofy/Thor amalgam, or is there another connection I’m missing?

No! No more god-damn Squirrel Girl!

I think sanitizing/Disneyizing Marvel kind of defeats the purpose of buying Marvel in the first place.

And Penny Arcade has added their take.

Thanks. I was hoping that someone was collecting the crossover commentary comics. This one is my favorite so far.

Considering that Hugh Jackman has been doing a lot of musical work, I don’t see that as being too much of a stretch.
