I just caught the tail end of this on the news but I think they said Disney was selling off their original plans for a theme park. Starting bid would be 1/2 million. Why would a company of this size even consider selling off an item like this?? I can’t even imagine it for any amount of money.
It’s a piece of paper. There are no secrets on it. And it’s worth a bunch of money. The financial reason to sell is that once Disney gets the money that piece of paper is worth, they could in turn invest it or reduce how much they owe in debts by that much and get a greater ROI than the annual increase in value of the paper.
So it’s the financially correct decision.
First of all, it’s just a hand-drawn map of Disneyland, made by Walt Disney himself and another guy as they were trying to raise the money to build the park. Second, it’s not being sold by the company, but instead by a private collector, who bought it from a Disney employee who asked Walt if he could have it.
That makes more sense, I never was a big fan of Disney Land but have always been a huge fan of Walt Disney.
It’s not even that. If you read the correction at the bottom of the article,
it is a*** copy*** of the original drawn up by Disney. That Disney-penned original is owned by the Disney company and is not for sale.
This make a lot more sense I can’t even imagine them letting go of the original.
Why? Should every scrap of paper Disney ever touched be considered a holy relic?
