Disney employee ruins marriage proposal

A Karen in Mouse Ears?

Disney has apologized. It’s still pretty appalling behavior from an employee.

Looks like they were on an empty stage. The employee could have waited a couple minutes and then asked them to leave.

If they weren’t supposed to be there, then they weren’t supposed to be there. A marriage proposal doesn’t make them special.

I wonder how much of this is enforcement of employee-only areas vs. a policy stating that all wedding proposals must be performed in the Deluxe Dream Romance Staging Studio at $900/hr (not including character appearances).

But another employee told them it was ok, according to the story.

Disney parks are marketed as family friendly. You go and make life time memories. The staff is there to be pleasant and create a happy experience.

A minor rule infraction could be overlooked for Park guests. They weren’t in the back of a building where employees hang out.

I hope they did ask permission. That would be the appropriate behavior.

Disneyland is very serious about employees “never ruining the magic” of their guests stays. The park management is way, way, way more pissed at the optics of a Disney employee ruining someone’s marriage proposal than they are about someone being on an unused stage for five minutes.

I thought it was funny! It brings back memories of being chastised by the Paris police, their wagging fingers and vehement head shakes get outta here! And skedaddle we did! These public marriage proposals are nothing but spectacles milking it for Instagram likes.

Get off the sculpture get out of the fountain stay on the trail don’t hold up the parade, move off the red carpet with your selfish display of fake emotion.

Is it really some big surprise to the bride, who is completely clueless about their decision to marry? This is a performance it’s a bit much to portray it as some romantic notion of when is he gonna spring the bling OMG I’m so surprised?!

Ruined? No. They’ll remember it fondly as they grow old together.

Imagine Goofy walking up and shaking a finger.

That would be a great video.

From what I’ve read, the couple was in the wrong for being in a restricted area. The Cast Member probably shouldn’t have grabbed the ring, but I’ve also heard that Disneyland Paris is “the wild west” when it comes to guest behavior.
Basically, Disney is ‘making good’ because the video went viral and the offense of the customer isn’t clear out of context. I’d be curious what the French think.

Goofy tried it once.

I think I saw somewhere that this wan’t the case. Regardless, they were in an area that had pyro for a show and was restricted. The cast member shouldn’t have grabbed the ring, but kicking them out was the right thing to do even if another cast member did give permision.

I’m sure it was done as a split-second decision but I think unless the pyrotechnics was set to go off very soon a better response would be for the employee to “supervise” the guests and remove them from the area as soon as possible. 30 seconds is all it would have taken for the couple to get their pictures and have their moment.

Well, I for one think it’s a much better story this way!

I get the impression the employee purposefully waited until they were mid-proposal to disrupt things, from the video.

Judge to Mickey: You can’t divorce Minnie because she’s weird!

Despite having the same last name, I’m pretty sure Mickey and Minnie are not married.

Walt Disney says otherwise.

Interesting. In every cartoon I’ve seen, they seem to maintain separate residences and are at best “dating.”

How did it ruin the proposal? I would have thought that it was a big win to have my proposal shared with millions of others thanks to the intervention.

Sure it does. It doesn’t give them special dispensation to steal, vandalize, or punch Mickey Mouse in the face. But it makes them special in terms of just occupying a space for a few minutes.
