Disney "teaming up" with company that tried to keep F9/11 out of theaters?

According to this:

Move America Forward is an extreme right-wing organization that tried to start a letter-writing campaign to get theaters to not show Fahrenheit 9/11. If this is true, it could call into question Michael Eisner’s claim that Disney’s not wanting to distribute F9/11 wasn’t politically motivated.
Since I can’t find this on moveamericaforward.org, I don’t vouch for it 100%. MCN is run by David Poland, who detested F9/11, so he could be having a bit of fun, to see if liberals will fall for it.
Maybe we’ll know after 1:00pm Pacific time, when curious parties will probably show up to see if it’s really real. If I were in the area, I sure would.

:dubious: :dubious: :dubious:

That’s a press release, quoted in full, with no apparent verification done.

Likely, there is no film, and no meeting.

It may not even come from the guys who opposed F 9/11. Maybe it’s from somebody who wants to manufacture :evidence" that Eisner is “guilty” of political bias.

I proclaim it to be fishier than ther Fulton market.

 Rest assured, the film exists. Here’s just one review (there are others) and here’s the IMDB listing.

However, I don’t see any contradiction on Eisner’s position, because, from most accounts I’ve read, the film is rah-rah inspirational (stories of uplift, triumph over adversity, etc.) without having an overtly political agenda, which was his “reason” for not handling F9/11.

For upbeat cheerful optimistic American stories, tune in shortly after November 4.

I’ve seen a trailer for that movie. If nothing else, it looked worhtwhile just for its cinematic beauty.

It did not look politicial at all. But it might be to you, if you associate amber waves of grain, and majestic purple mountains more closely with Bush’s brand of patriotism than Kerry’s brand of patriotism.

IMDB also told me if I liked “America’s Heart & Soul” they would also recommend “The Big Lebowski”.

Offering America’s Heart & Soul as an rebuttal to Fahrenheit 9/11 is just the celluloid version of the favoured “Why do you hate America?” tactic employed by the rhetorically disadvantaged to deflect criticism that can’t be answered directly.

Forced to defend an unsupportable position? Wave the flag harder and higher. Imply that your critics hate American values, poop in apple pies left to cool on windowsills, and disrespect their Mothers.

Of course, MoveAmericaForward.org was set up by Howard Kaloogian and Sal Russo, who also worked together (with more success) to put the kibosh on that Reagan miniseries.

Remember kids: America’s Heart and Soul isn’t just about emphasizing a saccharine, apolitical Ode to Individualism – it’s also about systematically bringing all the power and influence you have at your disposal to bear to rigorously suppress any viewpoint which is contrary to your own political ambition.

I thought the pubbies were free market types. Just put the product out there and let the ticket buyers decide what movie should be shown.

Funnily enough I saw the trailer for America’s Heart And Soul right before seeing Fahrenheit 9/11. When the trailer ended, there was some scattered mean-spirited snickering in the audience, as if people was in on a joke I didn’t get. Now I wonder if Move America Forward’s campaign had anything to do with it.

Somehow, I don’t see sold-out BO for America’s Heart & Soul.

Oh yes, there definitely is such a movie, as ArchiveGuy has proven.

I see that I didn’t make myself clear. My fault. I knew there was a movie coming out called America’s Heart & Soul. I’ve known about it for a while and have seen the preview. There was no doubt in my mind about that.

What I questioned was that Disney was “teaming up” with Move America Forward for an advance screening. I didn’t mean that, if I were there, I’d go to the screening to see if such a movie existed, but that there was actually a screening presented by MAF, which would put MAF and Disney in the same pocket.

I agree that it’s just a rah-rah movie with no real political agenda, but Disney wouldn’t release an advance print for just anybody who wants to have a screening. They’d know exactly who and what MAF is. Eisner ok’ing it would be a FU salvo in the ongoing Disney vs. Miramax/Michael Moore war. That’s how I see it anyway.

I have no complaints or anything negative to say here. Notice I didn’t put this in the Pit. I just think it’s interesting. I love watching the ongoing adventures of everyone involved (Moore, Miramax, Disney, Move America Forward).

This is better than anything that’s on TV!

Btw, I’ve heard that America’s Heart & Soul is a nice little movie. Someone on another message board referred to it as a “Travels With Charley” type movie. I’m sure it’s lovely and I always loved travelogues while growing up. I’ll go see it.
Apparently the upcoming movie Michael Moore Hates America is also mainly a travelogue, going around the country to show how great the nation is and the wonderful people who live here. Since I also think our nation, as a physical country, is great, and that the majority of people who live here are decent and good, it also sounds like a movie I’d like, EXCEPT for that stupid title.

There’s no contradiction in Michael Moore wanting to expose the bad side of American politics in hopes for a better change, and loving America. Anyone who’d say that MM, or any protester or the war and the currect administration, “hates America” is a moron with no sense of the values this country was founded on, and no sense period.

of the war, current administration

Preview is my friend, but I’m a lousy friend and never call him up.

Seems to me that Fahrenheit 9/11 clearly shows Michael Moore loves working-class America, the brave men and women of the armed forces, and politicians who don’t jerk the public around with “terror alert” bullstuff and backdoor energy deals.

For some reason, this gives me uncontrollable giggles.

(And reminds me of the movie American Pie in an eerie indirect sort of way.)
