Disney World - activity involving hiding something from a wolf?

We brought my 3 year old daughter to Disney World last October for her 3rd birthday. She vividly remembers and describes her experiences there. I am very familiar with Disney World - I’ve probably been through the admission turnstiles 300 or more times.

Yesterday my daughter recounted an experience that I don’t remember. She asked me if I remembered when we had to “hide stuff from the wolf in Disney World.” I can’t think of what she’s thinking of. She remembers the bacon from breakfast and minutiae about attractions and events that astounds me; I think I’m just not thinking creatively enough about this. I know at her age that she’s likely to be mixing memories and substituting fantasy for reality.

Anyone have any guesses as to what she might be remembering?

Could it have been something about the Three Little Pigs? To a three year old being on the other side of a door might be seen as hiding and the wolf was trying to find them by getting the door open.

3 Little Pigs crossed my mind too. Disney has a Silly Symphony featuring 3LP & BBW. I’m having trouble recalling any attractions, shows, or parades that feature them though. Is there one?

My daughter was specifically talking about hiding objects from a wolf or wolf-like creature. Sort of a hide-n-seek type thing; though I recognize some of this is my interpretation of her interpretation of reality.

Well, the Big Bad Wolf is indeed a character at Disney World.

And if memory serves, he also has a minor role in the Disney Studios Theme Park’s version of Fantasmic!. I’ll have to ask more about while treading lightly as to not implant the memory.

This is a shot in the dark – did you attend any of the character meals, and could the Big Bad Wolf been at one of them? Those things tend to encourage audience participation – especially among the kids – I can easily imagine a scenario where the three little pigs walk over to your table and pretend to be scared of the wolf at the other end of the restaurant, maybe pretending to hide. So, in this scenario, the pigs themselves are what would have to be hidden from the wolf.

That’s all I got.

Also, she might be referring to Brer Fox from the Song of the South and the Splash Mountain ride. He looks pretty wolf-like. I’m still not sure what you’d hide from him, but at least he would probably be a more common sight at Disneyworld than the Big Bad Wolf. Might open up some additional avenues of thought.

Or she could be conflating a dream she had with actual memories of the visit.

I vote for imagination. My parents love to tell a story about when I was young. My dad came back from England and was showing us some money he got. When I saw the picture of the Queen I said: “Oh, I know her.”

They asked me how I knew her: “I met her at the fish place.” They say I was very nonchalant about it as if the Queen and I were old friends and they should know we often go to the “fish place.” They never got more of an explanation from me and I have no memory of what I was thinking at the time.

Hmmm… I thought I submitted another reply to this yesterday. Anyway, I talked to my daughter some more. I’m leaning towards this being a ruse.

She said that…

[li]it was an activity on a TV (or possibly a monitor, screen, etc.).[/li][li]it involved holding a controller/object/device of sorts which she used to hide objects from the on-screen wolf[/li][li]and finally, that since I don’t remember it, we’ll just have to go to Disney World and see if we can find it.[/li][/ul]

Its not so much a “ruse” as that a 3-year old’s distinction between what it real and imagined is pretty hazy.

It sounds like she’s remembering a cartoon or computer game and conflating it with her memory of the park.

Okay, I think I’ve got it.

Epcot has two pavillions named “Innoventions” where kids can play little video games designed to educate them about something or other. One of them “The Great Piggy Bank Adventure” in Innoventions West teaches them about saving and investing. One of the games (“Hide and Peek”) has the following description:

The best part about this is that you don’t have to go back to Disney World to check. You can play it online.

That’s GOTTA be it. We did the GPBA in Innoventions and I remember it being REALLY well done.

Here’s a YouTube link to a video that shows you (and me) that my daughter (and Meltdown) was right!

So what did your daughter say when you showed her the game?

I haven’t showed her yet. I’m still at the office

My daughter confirmed that was what she was thinking of, though she was rather unimpressed. My wife was impressed, but reserved about it. She said, “I knew you were obsessing over that and would find it.”
