I want to get rid of two unopened 1 quart containers of 15W-50 motor oil. I bought it for my previous car, and my current car does not use this weight oil.
How can I safely, legally get rid of these? I’d be happy to donate them somewhere, since it seems wasteful to throw them out.
But my main goal is just to get them out of my house.
I don’t know about California, but around here just about any auto parts store will also accept used oil for recycling for free. They should have NO problem taking brand new oil for free.
Maybe you could also call a few charities in your area. Maybe your local Meal-on-Wheels could take it for one of their volunteer drivers. Or maybe a nearby senior center has a program where they take seniors to doctor’s appointments and such. They may be able use it in their vehicles.
Don’t be shy about calling and asking. Places like these could always use practical donations such as this.
See if that guy from Jackass will drink it or pour it on his body and run through fire or something. Failing that, craigslist or freecycle would be my recommendation.
