Disposition of Student Loan Servicing Center (SLSC) of Harrisburg, PA?

I had 3 student loans serviced by them (SLSC) which were paid off in 1993. 2 of the 3 show ‘Paid in Full’ status on the federal National Student Loan Data System, the 3rd shows ‘Nonreinsured’ status and a principle balance of $2500 (the original loan amount). I just completed a 2nd degree with another batch of student loans and I don’t want the old one added to my total since I already paid it off. There is an “American Education Services” company with the same phone number and P.O. box shown on my SLSC documents but they disavow any knowledge of SLSC and don’t have records of my old loans. I’m not finding a website for SLSC via Google…anyone know exactly what happened to them?

Well, what might be happening is this…

If your original loan was sold to the US Department of Education under the “Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loan” Act of 2008 (ECASLA), then that loan is now being serviced by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). EAS of Harrisburg is a branch of PHEAA, but the branch that conducts its student loan servicing operations for federally-owned loans is FedLoan Servicing. So the organization that was SLSC might have had your loan information transferred to FedLoan. Try http://www.myfedloan.org/ or call 1-800-699-2908 (Monday - Friday, 8am - 9pm EST).

Thanks. I looked up SLSC on corporations.state.pa.us and I see PHEAA is listed as the owner. I will give them a call after Christmas.
